Job Details

Neogene Therapeutics is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company aiming to change the paradigm of treatment for solid cancers. Our mission is to provide cancer patients with T cell therapies targeting mutated proteins called neo-antigens, which are present on cancer cells as a consequence of DNA mutations. Neogene is developing novel technologies to enable the engineering of ‘designer T cells’ with neo-antigen specificities that display an optimized ability to seek and destroy cancer cells.

For our Research facility located in Amsterdam, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our T cell receptor (TCR) discovery platform research team as a (Senior) Research Associate. The individual will assume responsibilities for conducting experimental and pre-clinical work aiming to develop neo-antigen-based T cell therapies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing TCR isolation and characterization studies under the supervision of senior research staff. Involved techniques include density gradient-, magnetic bead- and flow cytometry-based isolation of human immune cells (T cells, B cells, and other), phenotypic and functional evaluation of immune cells by flow cytometry (surface and intracellular staining, proliferation tracking, cytotoxicity assays) and genetic modification of primary immune cells and cell lines utilizing retro-/lenti-viruses and gene editing tools (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9).
  • Support of assay development and technology transfer.
  • Documentation of experimental results in electronic laboratory journal and databases.
  • Presentation of obtained results in internal work-discussions.
  • Completion of tasks relating to laboratory operations under supervision of the Lab-manager. For example, receiving and storage of incoming shipments, aliquoting of reagents and database maintenance for cryogenic storage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master’s in Biomedical Sciences or a related field. Recently graduated candidates are invited to apply. Candidates with relevant experience may be eligible for a position as Senior Research Associate (at the company’s discretion). Industry experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge on aseptic cell culture techniques and first-hand experience with multi-color flow cytometry is required.
  • Candidates with a background in immunology are strongly preferred.
  • Additional training in the area of B and/or T cell culture, genetic manipulation of cells utilizing retroviruses, lentiviruses or gene editing tools (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9), molecular biology (next-generation sequencing and vector design/construction) and proficiency with Flow Cytometry is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills, a strong sense of urgency and responsibility with regards to work duties and the ability to deliver results based on challenging timelines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced growing company environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities.
  • We are seeking a person who will lead by example and is a self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Authorization to work with GMOs is preferred.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in The Netherlands.

Company

Neogene Therapeutics is a global, preclinical stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of next generation, fully individualized engineered T cell therapies for a broad spectrum of cancers.

Our proprietary neoantigen T cell receptor (TCR) discovery and T cell engineering platform identifies TCR genes with specificity for neoantigens – found exclusively on cancer cells as a result of cancer-associated DNA mutations.

Cancer is a genetically individual disease – no two tumors are exactly the same. These variations create neoantigens – unique targets for every tumor. Neogene’s novel approach delivers a tailored T cell therapy containing a unique set of specific TCR genes for each individual patient. Engineered into patient-derived T cells, these TCRs are directed toward neoantigens in tumor cells, with the goal of eliciting strong and durable responses in a variety of solid tumor indications.

We offer the opportunity to join a highly dynamic biotech start-up. You can expect a collaborative environment created by a team with deep scientific expertise and an industrial track-record in T cell therapies. We value pro-active team-players who pursue their goals with dedication, endurance and a daring mindset.
