Neogene Therapeutics is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company aiming to change the paradigm of treatment for solid cancers. Our mission is to provide cancer patients with T cell therapies targeting mutated proteins called neo-antigens, which are present on cancer cells as a consequence of DNA mutations. Neogene is developing novel technologies to enable the engineering of ‘designer T cells’ with neo-antigen specificities that display an optimized ability to seek and destroy cancer cells.

For our research facility located in Amsterdam, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our product/process development (PD) team as a (Senior) Research Associate.

PD forms a crucial link between R&D and the final clinical product and in this highly exploratory field continued optimization of the cell product is further developed. This role will support the development of a clinical manufacturing process for engineered T cells with patient-derived neo-antigen specific TCRs. This entails optimizing and translating research protocols into clinical grade compliant procedures. The successful candidate should have a knowledge of basic immunology principles, bioprocess development, and cGMP manufacturing. The candidate should also have experience in primary cell culture (T cells preferred), in different formats including flasks and bags.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing optimization experiments in the area of T cell Immunology under supervision of senior PD staff. Involved techniques include, but are not limited to, density gradient-, magnetic bead based isolation of human immune cells, phenotypic and functional evaluation of immune cells by flow cytometry (surface and intracellular staining, proliferation tracking, cytotoxicity assays) and genetic modification of primary immune cells and cell lines utilizing retro-/lenti-viruses and gene editing tools (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9).
  • Documentation of experimental results in electronic laboratory journal and databases.
  • Presentation of obtained results in internal work-discussions.
  • Completion of tasks relating to laboratory operations under supervision of the Lab-manager. For example, receiving and storage of incoming shipments, aliquoting of reagents and database maintenance for cryogenic storage.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor or Master’s in Biomedical Sciences or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant work experience. Industry experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge on aseptic cell culture techniques is required
  • Multi-color Flow Cytometry and additional training in the area of genetic manipulation of cells utilizing retroviruses, lentiviruses or gene editing tools (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9) is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills, a strong sense of urgency with regards to work duties and the ability to deliver results based on challenging timelines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced growing company environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • We are seeking a person who will lead by example and is a self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in The Netherlands.
