Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is seeking an experienced Paralegal for a long-term contract position to assist our multifaceted patent team. Must have a college degree and experience in a patent office setting (law firm or in-house patent department ; mid-level with 5+ years of experience) Required experience includes preparing and submitting formality documents associated with foreign prosecution, acquiring vital signatures as needed and forwarding to outside counsel. Maintaining records to track status of documents.  Experience with pharmaceutical/biotech patent documents is a plus.

The successful candidate must have the demonstrated ability to:

  • Assist the current foreign filing staff in all phases of foreign patent prosecution
  • Support multiple patent attorneys, or agents
  • Prioritize and manage a growing workload with a keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Work both independently and in collaboration with other paralegals and attorneys
  • Articulate clearly and effectively in verbal and written communications with a strong focus on accuracy 
  • Comprehend and follow through with instructions, as well as ask well thought out questions when clarity is needed

Specific duties include:  

  • Manage, edit and process incoming foreign formality documents and correspondence
  • Obtain signatures from Executive Directors, Senior Vice President and Trademark attorney on Power of Attorney documents
  • Contact and obtain inventor’s signatures where required
  • Confirm the appropriate attorney’s name, title and docket number on Power of Attorney documents; closely monitor and track deadlines. 
  • Obtain notarization, apostilles and legalization when required on formal documents.
  • Return required documents prior to deadline to outside counsel via courier or in some instances directly to foreign agent. 
  • Review foreign docket reports; follow up with attorneys and paralegals and close out completed actions by notifying the docketing paralegal

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 5+ years of experience in formalities associated with patent prosecution.
  • Experience with patent prosecution and foreign formality documents.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize workload.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Excel.
  • Experience and familiarity with creating, editing and finalizing PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with intellectual property docketing software is a plus (Anaqua).
