ROLE SUMMARY

The Data Steward role in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecules (PSSM) group will be responsible for the development of data definitions and rules and the implementation of these standards through data governance initiatives and programs. Data Core is one of the key strategy areas that supports PSSM’s overall Digital Xceleration strategy to drive molecules to market faster for the benefit of patients. This role will lead all aspects of data quality to ensure the success of the programs in the Data Core strategy area.

This position will partner with line based subject matter experts (SMEs) to define and implement standards for key PSSM data (e.g. Solubility etc.) across all lines, systems and workflows. In addition, the individual will ensure the core components of Data Core are integrated within the broader PSSM and enterprise level digital transformation initiatives. 

The selected individual will achieve this through the following activities:

  • Partnering with all PSSM lines/groups to secure the right resources to define fit-for-purpose data standards across common workflows
  • Building and leading an engaged data quality community and change agents who can act collectively to influence the Data Core vision
  • Establishing an effective governance framework that can implement and sustain a culture of data reuse within PSSM workflows
  • Co-ordination of key aspects of terminologies and dictionaries with Pfizer Digital and other stakeholders and partner lines such as Medicinal Sciences (MedSci) and Pfizer Global Supply (PGS)

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Align PSSM data dictionaries with industry guidelines such as Data Integrity and standards/frameworks such as FAIR, Allotrope etc.
  • Create conceptual, logical and physical data models for key data entities across all PSSM systems
  • Establish, monitor and maintain data quality dashboards for key data entities and datasets.
  • Collaborate with line SMEs to improve data capture, data quality and data reuse practices.
  • Partner with data stewards in other MedSci lines to align on cross-WRDM data standards and authoritative sources.
  • Establish and lead a PSSM Data Quality Council through regular governance meetings (Steering Team, Core Team etc.)
  • Coordinate and prioritize investment proposals for data quality initiatives
  • Identify, escalate and manage risks to minimize delays that would impede adoption of the Data Core philosophy across PSSM workflows and community.
  • Maintain engagement with key stakeholders beyond PSSM to enhance connections to Med Sci and PGS respectively.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree with 15+ years of experience OR Master’s degree with 12+ years of experience in the Pharma or related industry with extensive knowledge and skill in the definition and implementation of data standards/ontologies/taxonomies/vocabularies.
  • Proven track record of solving data access challenges using robust data dictionaries
  • Highly organized and significant experience in initiating, driving and delivering complex strategic programs both internally within Pfizer (essential) and across the external ecosystem (desirable)
  • Proven ability working in matrixed environment with diverse groups including subject matter experts, project scientists and senior management
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate, collaborate and influence at all levels within the organization and across the external ecosystem
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, considering various frames of reference and ensuring cross-functional alignment in decision-making
  • Strong strategic and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to synthesize concepts across the digital transformation community and effectively communicate them to all appropriate stakeholders at various levels within the origination and beyond (external funding bodies etc.)
  • Self-starter and self-directed with the skills to take a concept, refine into fully developed idea and build out into detailed plan for execution

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical research, development and manufacturing processes
  • Ph.D. in a related area and 15+ years of experience is desirable
  • Familiarity working with standard terminology formats, including OWL, XML and JSON.
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
