We are currently searching for a Biologist to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC, and it is on-site in Bethesda, MD.

 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform and analyze immunological assays according to Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures, including but not limited to plaque/immunofocus reduction neutralizing antibody assays, immunostain, ELISPOT, flow cytometry, HAI and other inhibition assays, ELISAs, LIPS, HBGA blockade, and other biomarker detection assays.
  • Perform virology methods including but not limited to primer design, DNA and RNA extraction and purification, PCR, RT-qPCR, Next-generation sequencing technology and bioinformatics, microarrays, molecular cloning, RNA interference, protein expression and purification including baculovirus system expression of norovirus virus-like particles (VLPs), ultracentrifugation, western blots, gel electrophoresis, transfections, bacterial transformations, and microscopy.
  • Conduct blood processing and prepare serum, plasma, and PBMCs for testing.
  • Apply Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles to characterize test articles, analyze specimens, and maintain detailed records of assays and data.
  • Maintain cell cultures (e.g., Vero, CRFK, Sf-9, CHO, RAW264.7, CaCo-2 cells, intestinal enteroids), and perform virus or VLP amplification, harvest, and titration.
  • Provide support of norovirus clinical studies in accordance with patient rights guidelines - support clinical trials at NIH to evaluate therapeutics for the treatment of chronic norovirus infection in immunocompromised patients.
  • Receive, organize, and distribute specimens, documenting shipments using specified electronic systems.
  • Provide support in basic laboratory set up (purchasing laboratory supplies and equipment), monitoring inventory lab supplies (liquid nitrogen, dry ice, and ordering supplies as needed), and maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.

 

Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Biology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related lab experience.
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
