Element Biosciences is a multi-disciplinary startup focused on innovating genetic analysis tools for the research and clinical markets. The Company's technology will broaden the end user experience through improved data quality and simplified workflows to benefit discoveries and diagnosis in healthcare.

We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and highly motivated synthetic chemist to join the chemistry discovery group at a well-funded and long-term multi-venture backed Life Sciences start-up company. The synthetic chemist will be involved in the development of reagents for our new NGS technologies. Expect to be part of a highly energetic and collaborative team. The position is at scientist/senior scientist level and is located in Sunnyvale, CA.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
·        As part of our R&D chemistry team, you will be an integral part of the successful synthesis, purification, and characterization of small organic molecules and synthetic macromolecules.
·        Design, develop, and optimize research projects on synthesis of organic dyes, modified nucleosides, and related small molecules.
·        Conjugation and purification of protein, oligonucleotide, and other biomolecules.
·        Present scientific results at project/group meetings, decision boards, and external conferences.
·        Cross-team collaboration to support R&D needs and aid other departments.
·        Other duties as assigned.
 

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
·        Highly skilled synthetic chemist in methodology development and multistep synthesis.
·        Strong knowledge on techniques related to purification and characterization of organic compounds and fluorescent dyes.
·        Expertise in both synthesis of organic dyes and modified nucleosides is preferred.
·        Well organized and good communicator.
·        Good team player.
·        Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
·        Persistent and ambitious.
·        Multi-tasking; flexible working in a fast-paced research environment.
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
·        Ph.D. in organic chemistry or related field with 3-5 years postdoctoral and/or industrial experience or MS with 10+ industrial experience.
·        Proven track record of creative thinking and consistent delivery as demonstrated by publication/presentation records.
·        Experience and Knowledge in fluorescent dyes, and NGS is a plus.
