Breakthrough Fellowship Program – Global Product Development - Biostatistics

This program is designed to enhance our pipeline of diverse talent of leaders. Applicants for the Breakthrough Fellowship Program 10-week internship and intend to pursue their Master of Business Administration degree (MBA), Master of Public Health (MPH) degree or MS Statistics consistent with the time requirements of the program.

Statistics is a fundamental scientific component in drug development.  GPD Biostatistics is focused on delivering the best in trial design and analysis clinical trials. It is well situated to provide a comprehensive experience of leveraging mathematics and statistics to bring medicines to patients from inception through approval and post marketing follow-up.  The group collaborates with many other functional lines within Pfizer including clinical, programming, and data management.

Preliminary Proposed Outline of Breakthrough Fellowship with Global Product Development - Biostatistics:

  • Training In:

    • The drug discovery/development process

    • Clinical trial design

    • The role of statistics in the drug development process and the interaction between statistics and other functional lines across Pfizer

    • Basic understanding of therapeutic areas across GPD.

    • Basic introduction to statistical software relevant to drug development (e.g. SAS, R, EAST)

  • Outcomes

    • Gain an understanding of the role of statistics in drug development

    • Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary teams to reach complex decisions


  • An undergraduate in a 4-year program pursuing a BS degree December 2022 or Spring 2023 in Mathematics or Statistics.
  • Interest or background in applications to clinical trials and interest in a pursuit of MS of Statistics
  • Min GPA 3.0
