GRAIL is seeking an SRA or Associate Scientist in the Technical Operations team in Menlo Park. The ideal candidate is a team player with hands-on laboratory experience. The candidate will be encouraged to think outside of the box and creatively solve problems while executing NGS workflows in collaboration with many functions of our organization and executing experiments under the direction of scientists and engineers. The candidate will be instrumental in implementing process improvements, writing documentation, and carrying out day-to-day operations within GRAIL laboratories.
You will:
  • Develop experiment plans to support study objectives
  • Execute automated and manual sample preparation and NGS assays
  • Accurately plan and document laboratory work performed per GLP
  • Support root cause analyses across operational functions
  • Document investigations and reports per regulatory requirements (CAP/CLIA/FDA)
  • Develop expertise in workflows used in current production and research assays
  • Ensure laboratory activities are performed in compliance with procedures and safety guidelines when handling, storing and disposing of hazardous or bio-hazardous materials

Your background and qualifications will include:
  • Minimum of B.Sc. in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field with 5+ years of related experience.
  • Job Title/Level will be based on education and experience
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (fluency in English) as well as strong interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Working knowledge and expertise in clinical diagnostics, medical devices, or equivalentGood planning, prioritization, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • 2+ years of experience in Next Generation Sequencing assays and workflows preferred
  • Experience with Automated sample preparation workflows is a plus
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques (e.g. pipetting, SPRI, PCR, qPCR)Familiarity with nucleic acids extraction techniques and quantification devices (e.g., Nanodrop, Bioanalyzer, Fragment Analyzer, ddPCR) is a plus
  • General digital literacy and proficiency in GSuite
  • Data analysis using tools such as JMP, or proficiency with R or Python is a plus
