R&D Operations Manager (Open to Remote)


What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will support the Business Resiliency Program for the Research and Development (R&D) organization. The Manager will report to a Senior Manager of Business Resiliency in R&D Strategy and Operations.

R&D Operations partners with R&D leadership, business process owners, and subject matter experts to enable R&D functions to effectively prepare for and respond to crisis incidents or disruptions to the business through the assessment of critical business processes, facilitation of business continuity plan building, and incident management support.

The Manager will be a liaison between the R&D business functions and the Business Resiliency Leads. He/she/they will be responsible for supporting Amgens Business Resiliency Program utilizing Amgens Business Resilience Planning Repository system (ABPR) for business continuity planning activities, scheduling and facilitating business impact analysis and business continuity planning activities, developing and reporting metrics, and providing additional business continuity and crisis management program support as needed.

The Manager will be a liaison (internal consultant) and program manager across R&D business continuity efforts. He/she/they will gather, analyze, and synthesize cross-functional information from numerous sources to turn unstructured business issues and requests into appropriate action plans and projects that result in high quality, meaningful and measurable results.

He/she/they will also develop reports and presentations that clearly summarize status, issues, implications and recommendations to key partners to enable high-quality decision making.

  • Coordinate and provide cross-functional support to R&D business process owners through facilitation of Business Impact Analysis interviews and Business Continuity Plan development, maintenance and approval, and business continuity plan exercises

  • Manage the development of business process-based business continuity plans in Amgens Business Resilience Planning Repository system (ABPR) in alignment with Amgens Business Resiliency Program

  • Develop and manage business continuity planning tools and trackers, including oversight and management of the R&D Business Continuity SharePoint site

  • Aid in the development of training materials, quick reference guides, playbooks, data analytics/metrics, and other related tools and materials to support the program

  • Aid in the development and management of risk reports and program metrics for R&D functions and executive management

  • Identify process improvement opportunities to drive risk mitigation initiatives and program enhancements

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business experience


Masters degree and 4 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business experience


Bachelors degree and 6 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree or strong demonstration of equivalent combination of relevant educational and professional training experience in leading cross-functional teams

  • 5+ years of experience in Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry, particularly in R&D

  • 6+ years of experience in a cross-functional business operations or project management role

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, presentation and facilitation skills, including ability to storyline and prepare executive-level reports

  • Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills

  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles

  • Drug Development knowledge with basic to strong understanding of activities within Research, Preclinical and Clinical Development, Medical and Regulatory

  • Business Continuity and Crisis Management development and planning knowledge and experience

  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity risks and mitigations

  • Independent, motivated, team member with experience in a matrix environment
