PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise, train, mentor and develop assigned staff
- Ensure the laboratory procedures are performed with strict adherence to SOPs
- Review procedure worksheets and ensuring QC procedures are performed and documented according to SOPs, reviews QC procedures
- Assign all technologist daily workload and maintaining on-call schedule
- Supervise processing, cryopreservation and storage of tumor cells. Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and reagents utilized in the cell culture laboratory
- Perform mammalian tissue culture on mouse and human cell lines as well as primary immune cells. Thaw and expand cells for large scale in vivo studies
- Cell culture media preparation, cell banking and testing
- Perform calculations necessary for determining cell doubling time, cell concentration, seeding density, molarity, etc
- Assist in writing, revising, and improving project records, cell culture records and logs, SOPs, training materials, protocols, reports, and other required documentation
- Troubleshoot technical process, cell culture issues, and equipment problems
- Work in a dynamic, team-based environment and coordinate with other departments. Collaborate with other departments such as in vivo, biomarker, quality, logistics, in order to support the manufacturing activities

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Adherence to Quality System Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related area with 5+ years, or Master degree with 3+ years experience in cell culture
- Experience with people management preferred
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Comfortable with maintaining a variety of cell lines at once
- Able to identify and troubleshoot issues with cell cultures, for example, signs of over trypsinization, under- or over seeding, contamination (from bacteria, fungus, or even other cell lines), senescence
- Experience with large scale cell culture is a huge plus
- Comfortable with calculations necessary for determining cell doubling time, cell concentration, seeding density, molarity, etc.
- Comfortable using computers, including an advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, e-mail, and internet
- Exceptional organizational, time- management, and prioritization skills
- Able to multi-task with a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy
- Willing and able to work within a Quality System with oversight by QA and other regulatory bodies
- Able to troubleshoot effectively and solve scientific problems with moderate supervision
- Able to find, read, and understand relevant scientific literature
- Willing and able to work under the pressure of deadlines and find solutions to meet timelines
- Able to work across teams by being a flexible team player
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
