The department of pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism (PKDM) within Amgen is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel effective, safe medicines. The successful scientist will work in a team environment to characterize the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of therapeutic drug candidates to achieve their full pharmacological potential. PKDM works in close partnership with disciplines such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to design promising clinical therapeutic candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.

What we expect of you

The responsibilities of this PKDM Senior Scientist position will require both a strong laboratory presence as well as the ability to lead others regarding experimental design, data interpretation, and communication of results. This role will also require collaboration with project team representatives (PTR) in support of drug discovery and development studies with a potential to serve as a PKDM PTR for cross-functional program support. Subject matter expertise in small molecule drug metabolizing enzymes and/or transporters is highly desired in addition to the skillsets detailed below.

The ideal candidate will draw from any the following key technical skillsets:

• Ability to execute experiments to quantitate molecular entities (small molecules, oligonucleotides, biotherapeutics, endogenous proteins or biomarkers) using LC-MS in support of both drug discovery and early development programs

• Extensive training in the use of biophysical, biochemical, and cell-based analytical methods to interrogate molecular attributes, including drug-target interactions that potentially influence their plasma pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution

• Experience with primary hepatocyte and/or cell line culture

• Capable of leveraging PK/PD relationships and in vitro-in vivo extrapolations in support of both drug discovery and early development programs

• Knowledge of instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as well as electronic laboratory notebook keeping

Basic Qualifications

• Doctorate degree with 3+ years of industry experience

• Candidates for the PKDM Senior Scientist position will have a PhD in pharmacology, pharmacokinetic/pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, or a related discipline. Experience with small molecule drug discovery and/or development is required.

• The candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to excel in a highly collaborative, matrixed team environment. Experience with filing IND-enabling reports and written summaries is of benefit.
