Job Details

Why Join Intellia?

Our mission is to develop curative genome editing treatments that can positively transform the lives of people living with severe and life-threatening diseases.

Beyond our science, we live our four core values: One, Explore, Disrupt, Deliver and feel strongly that you can achieve more at Intellia. We have a single-minded determination to excel and succeed together. We believe in the power of curiosity and pushing boundaries. We welcome challenging thoughts and imagination to develop innovative solutions. And we know that patients are counting on us to make the promise a reality, so we must maintain high standards and get it done.

We want all of our people to go beyond what is possible. We aren’t constrained by typical end rails, and we aren’t out to just “treat” people. We’re all in this for something more. We’re driven to cure and motivated for change. Just imagine the possibilities of what we can do together.

How you will Achieve More with Intellia:

Intellia is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Research Associate for our Ex Vivo Cell Therapy group. The primary responsibility for this position is developing and optimizing in vitro immunological assays to evaluate engineered immune cell function for cancer therapy.

  • Advance the optimization of immunological assays for evaluation of engineered T cell modalities

  • Generate gene-edited T cells to test in in-vitro assays

  • Execute bench work, analyze data, and implement and troubleshoot experiments, both independently and in collaboration with colleagues, to reach desired goals

  • Maintain a timely and accurate electronic lab notebook

  • Communicate research and development findings with internal and external partners

About You:

We are looking for a candidate with an M.S. or B.S. in immunology, cell biology or related field with 0-2 years industry experience. Other qualifications include:

  • Experience isolating, culturing, and characterizing human immune cells - including profiling by multi-color flow cytometry and intracellular cytokine staining, and T cell functional assays including cytotoxic killing, proliferation, activation, and measuring cytokine secretion by MSD or ELISA

  • Experience or familiarity with nucleic acid and protein quantification methods, such as PCR, real time PCR, droplet digital PCR, and western blot

  • Basic molecular biology skills are highly preferred

  • Working knowledge of immunology and oncology is highly preferred

  • Working knowledge of CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and gene editing experience is a plus

  • Experience with viral and non-viral delivery methods is a plus

  • Experience with in vivo studies is a plus

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work efficiently and productively in a highly dynamic, scientifically rigorous, and fast-paced environment

Meet your future team:
The Cell Engineering team is a group of fun, energetic, and passionate scientists whose mission is to develop the next generation of cell therapies for patients. You will report directly to a Scientist within the team who works on exploratory and cross-functional projects. Given the breadth of work on this team, the candidate will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of areas within the Immuno-Oncology and Cell Therapy spaces that support Intellia’s gene-editing pipeline.

The team is currently working mostly onsite to execute workflows in a wet-lab environment. Therefore, we strongly prefer the candidate to be local to the greater Boston area, or open to relocating.  While much of the day-to-day operations require wet-lab work, our team is focused on building not just technical expertise but fostering an environment for the growth of scientists interested in a career in Cell Therapy.  If you join our team, you can expect to join a hardworking and collaborative environment. We look forward to fostering your skills, learning from your experiences, and building a larger team that will make a difference in patient’s lives.

Company

Many of us pursuing work in the biotechnology industry are inspired by a loved one who is living with a disease or the loss of someone in our community. Rare genetic and oncological and immunological diseases not only affect the people living with often debilitating and life-threatening symptoms, but these disorders also significantly impact their families, friends and caregivers.

Our researchers work tirelessly to harness the genome editing technology CRISPR/Cas9 for human therapeutic use. Jennifer Doudna, an Intellia co-founder, and Emmanuelle Charpentier were awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their pioneering work in CRISPR. We at Intellia are humbled to have a hand in making what we believe to be medical history. As a leader in this space, we take this responsibility to patients seriously.

We are employing a modular genome editing platform to create diverse in vivo and ex vivo pipelines, spanning a range of therapeutic indications. Guided by this full-spectrum approach, we are committed to making CRISPR/Cas9-based medicines a reality for patients suffering from genetic diseases and to creating novel engineered cell therapies for various cancers and autoimmune diseases.
