ROLE SUMMARY

  • This role procures indirect materials necessary for the operation of the plant; searches for and rates new suppliers for commodities assigned; liaises between Quality and Supplier to resolve problems with specifications or rejected product; places purchase orders to ensure on-time receipt of materials to support plant functions; performs PC input, typing, distribution of documents, filing, and follow-up; provides assistance to enable the Purchasing Department to maintain and improve standards and objectives, ensures requisitions/purchase orders comply with Corporate Procedures, analyzes data in bid process and develops recommendations

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes division budget expense categories and recommends cost improvement/reduction measures.
  • Reviews and processes requisitions to ensure that the items(s) requisitioned adequately meet the desired requirements and specifications and are obtained at the most favorable price and terms. Monitors calibration orders.
  • Ensure timely renewal of blanket and standing orders which includes summarizing dollars spent, monitoring approval levels, requesting pricing from vendors, verifying rate for renewal contract period, revising contract, and distributing copies.
  • Maintains records for status of blanket and standing orders.
  • Prepares orders over dollar limit for Manager’s approval.
  • Resolves and settles claims with suppliers resulting from poor supplier performance of purchased goods or services. Acts as liaison between Quality and Supplier to ensure any problems with rejected product is resolved and specifications at MMT or supplier are corrected.
  • Develops EOQ (equal order quantity) and order point strategies for each repetitively purchased item.
  • Requests, obtains, reviews bid proposals from suppliers and negotiates contract terms and conditions favorable to the company.
  • Makes decisions consistent with department position on various matters in the absence of the Manager, remain current with company purchasing policies
  • Obtains resolution to Supplier Documentation Deficiency Notices. Prepares Material Disposition Authorization Forms for any items needing to be returned.
  • Keeps management informed of all events or supplier furnished data that has an effect on company purchases or scheduled deliveries.
  • Ensures appropriate authorized signature on orders and blanket order releases.
  • Performs the routine responsibilities that the Purchasing Manager performs when that person is out.
  • Ensures requisitions/purchase orders comply with Corporate Procedures.
  • Updates and maintains PRISM system for purchases made by buyer. Maintains Open Order Report for inventory and non-inventory purchases.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 years of procurement experience desired
  • Must have the ability to analyze data in bid process and develop recommendations.

  • Excellent communications skills both oral and written to communicate clearly and effectively with others to expedite the procurement.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Specific vision abilities include ability to adjust focus.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have the ability to multi-task across multiple competing priorities and requirements. Note that these activities may not be time bound to core hours at the site.
  • Must have the ability to manage time effectively to meet strict performance deadlines.
  • Must be able to work beyond the hours typically defined as a “regular” workday, which may or may not include weekends and holidays.
