Associate Scientist / Senior Research Associate / Research Associate, Preclinical Development

We are looking for a highly motivated Associate Scientist / Senior Research Associate / Research Associate to join the biology team. In your role, you will be focused on preclinical neurodegenerative disease model development and the establishment of medium throughout primary neuron-based culture systems to support the evaluation novel neuroprotective compounds. The exact level of your role will be commensurate with your experience. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, design, and execute in vivo studies in a range of rodent neurodegenerative disease models with functional, histological, and biomarker endpoints to support target mechanism of action, evaluation of PK/PD relationships, and preclinical efficacy of novel therapeutics
  • Develop, design, and execute in vitro primary neuron assays with multiple analytical endpoints including, but not limited to, live imaging, stained/fixed cell imaging, and protein or metabolite quantification
  • Analyze data, interpret, and communicate results
  • Keep detailed and organized records of experimental protocols and results
  • Rely upon your keen analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions
  • Keep current with scientific literature relating to neurodegeneration

Professional Experience/Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field with 4+ years of hands on research experience in neuroscience in an industrial or academic setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency with preclinical animal models: handling, husbandry and colony management, genetic tools, drug or viral delivery, tissue and fluid collection, surgical techniques, and behavioral assays with a focus on neurological function
  • Experience collecting and preparing CNS/PNS tissue (cryostat sectioning, staining, immunohistochemistry) for microscopy and developing unique analyses for timely data collection
  • Experience with primary neuronal tissue culture and cell-based assay development is required
  • Keen analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to resolve complex problems requiring innovative, custom solutions
  • Ability to independently analyze and interpret data (e.g., GraphPad Prism, Origin, R, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet aggressive deadlines
