Amgens Research and Development (R&D) Business Operations organization addresses complex business challenges with outstanding people, tools, and processes. The team delivers on key initiatives and capabilities to support R&D. We are looking for talent who has capabilities in resource forecasting and modeling, financial analytics and expense management. We are a team that delivers for our partners!

In this vital role you will help stand up a new resource management capability across Amgen Research and Development. The manager will support R&D scenario forecasting related to business development opportunities, capability builds, and portfolio prioritization decisions. The Resource Forecasting Manager will partner with the Resource Forecasting Group to plan and execute resource forecasting outputs and analysis that will provide interpretation of demand changes to inform resource decisions by functional stakeholders. Successful candidates will bring a robust background of data analytical skills to provide insights and enable decision making, as well as a strong financial and system acumen.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Generating schedules and stakeholder communications for resource forecasting processes
  • Coordinate the generation of outputs for ad hoc scenario resource forecasting analysis to support functional management, finance and process improvement initiatives
  • Perform quality oversight to ensure integrity of resource forecasting outputs
  • Liaise with functional SMEs to confirm data assumptions
  • Drive the documentation and transparency of algorithm models
  • Meeting Facilitation of forecasting reviews with functional stakeholders
  • Develop application enhancements and configurations (portfolio filters, scenario versions, reporting styles) to driver process efficiencies
  • Coordinate the impact analysis and modeling for algorithm changes that apply business insights to improve predictability and embed process efficiencies
  • Provide application super user support for team and stakeholders and influence strategy and priorities for system enhancements and integrations to meet business needs (e.g. Planisware )
  • Develop, document and manage data collection tool logic and functionality (e.g. Excel, Sharepoint) and contribute to strategies for streamlining and driving integrated solutions
  • Training and mentoring of contractor analysts
  • Execute special projects and assignments
  • Stay abreast of latest developments in planning and forecasting applications and methodologies to contribute to advances in resource forecasting (continuous improvement)
  • Supporting R&D and Corporate Level Initiatives through financial and data analytics
  • Candidate can be onsite or remote.
  • Some travel would be required (2-4 times a year)

Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree Or
  • Masters degree and 3 years of clinical-related business operations/resource forecasting experience Or
  • Bachelors degree and 5 years of clinical-related business operations/resource forecasting experience OR
  • Associates degree and 10 years of clinical-related business operations/resource forecasting experience OR
  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of clinical-related business operations/resource forecasting experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in the sciences, management sciences (decision analysis, operations research, statistics, strategic planning), computer science, finance, economics, basic sciences, engineering or other majors with strong analytical focus
  • 5 or more years work experience in life sciences or medically related field, including 4+ years of biopharmaceutical clinical product development (clinical research or clinical operations)
  • Strong knowledge of planning, forecasting, data analysis, and programming, showcasing an ability to tease out critical drivers of demand and build/maintain resource algorithms
  • Experience with portfolio planning (i.e. Planisware) and scenario analysis to quickly assess downstream impact of decisions
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking and verbal/written communication skills. Strong understanding of principals of customer service as it applies to internal and external customers
  • Proven ability to develop collaborative internal and external relationships and navigating matrixed organizations.
  • Being able to adapt work and communication styles to meet organization needs. Strong planning and project management skills with the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple high priority projects.
  • Advanced computer and system operation skills
  • Thorough understanding of financial management, budget process and project valuation metrics
  • Knowledge of Functional Service Provider operating model
  • Ability to write and present clearly using computer and clinical terminology at all levels of the organization
  • Strong clinical trials operations knowledge and drug development process
  • Proven ability to effectively implement strategies and deliver results.
  • Strong data analytics skills with experience in analytics software (eg. Tableau, Smartsheet, Spotfire, Microsoft Access), as well as portfolio planning tools and financial systems (eg. Planisware, SAP, Anaplan, Hyperion)
