Since then we have advanced our lead molecule into Phase II clinical studies for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and systemic sclerosis (a form of scleroderma). Our second development program with another NCE is in preclinical development and is targeting Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease. EHP works closely with Emerald Health Biotechnology España to build on our world-leading position in the field of cannabinoid science and pharmaceutical development.


About the Role:

The Staff Accountant, reporting to the Corporate Controller, is responsible for accounts payable, assigned journal entries and account reconciliations, payroll preparation, and a variety of other tasks. Processes all vendor payments, expense reports, check runs and cash transfers. Collaborates effectively with people in all departments and at all levels within the organization. The successful candidate will work directly with the Accounting Manager and Corporate Controller, as well as other internal personnel and external vendors as needed. He/She will possess sound judgement, excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and a working knowledge of accounting processes and procedures.


Job Responsibilities:

• Coordinates accounts payable invoice coding, entry, and payments for US and Spain subsidiary, including maintaining and filing of all related payment support

• Corresponds with vendors and internal personnel for invoice review and approval, and resolves discrepancies with vendors as needed

• Obtains and maintains vendor W-9 records and prepares 1099 reporting

• Prepares payroll and related journal entries

• Prepares and records assigned general ledger and treasury account journal entries

• Prepares month-end reconciliations and analyses of assigned general ledger and treasury accounts

• Prepares schedules, reports and documentation for internal and external reporting as necessary

• Prepares monthly financial information reporting for Spain subsidiary

• Assists with the monthly financial close process to ensure a timely close

• Provides support during audits by gathering and preparing support for requests

• Adheres to new and established policies, procedures, and internal controls

• Reviews expense reports and prepares related journal entries

• Creates purchase orders as needed

• Assists with financing-related administration and documentation as needed

• Performs other related duties as assigned



• Bachelor’s degree in accounting

• 3 plus years of relevant experience, pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry and publicly traded company experience a plus

• Prior accounts payable, payroll, and journal entry preparation experience

• Strong Excel skills; proficient with other Microsoft Office programs

• Experience with navigating and using ERP systems, Acumatica ERP system a plus

• Knowledge and application of commonly-used accounting concepts, practices and procedures

• Excellent external and internal communication skills, in particular concise and precise verbal and written communication skills

• Motivated, team-player attitude with strong interpersonal skills

• Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, take directions and be able to work both independently and as a team member

• Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills

• Ability to work in the San Diego office
