Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Sr Manager

Job Summary:

We are looking for a top tier, highly experienced Environment Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Senior Manager lead key risk, safety and health programs at our Cambridge, MA location.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be responsible for the continuous improvement of risk, safety and health programs at the Cambridge, MA location
  • Develop and maintain site risk register with a focus on Serious Injury or Fatality (SIF) risks to enable, better risk analysis, better strategic planning and more efficient leveraging of risk management resources
  • Lead higher level technical risk assessment (PHA, HAZOP etc.) and track corrective actions and ongoing compliance with risk mitigation strategies and controls
  • Deliver Safety Engineering/EHS by Design support for specific projects at the Cambridge, MA site
  • Partner with clients to advance safety culture and manage EHSS risks

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead the implementation of effective and efficient Risk Register and JHA systems
  • Lead ongoing improvements in Risk Assessments and JHA utilization, driving to world class performance
  • Develop, coach and mentor EHS colleagues in optimum use of Risk Register and JHA tools
  • Where needed, lead complex or particularly high hazard Risk Assessment using process hazard evaluation techniques such as What If, HAZOP, FMEA etc. to support site EHS and Engineering deliverables
  • Provide EHS support to laboratory and process development clients

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate Degree and 2 years experience in chemical engineering, engineering, chemistry, biology or other science areas, or environmental, safety, or industrial hygiene.
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years experience in chemical engineering, engineering, chemistry, biology or other science areas, or environmental, safety, or industrial hygiene.
  • 10 or more years of experience in EHSS supporting safety and health programs
  • Strong understanding of Chemical and Biological process development and laboratory operations.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Process driven with a strong Operational Excellence mindset
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, action oriented, self-starting, program development and project management
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry leading industrial programs
  • Qualification in Process Hazard Analysis, including one or more of Hazop, What-If, PrHA, FMEA
  • Familiarity with risks and controls around high potency compounds and explosive atmospheres.
  • Applied knowledge and understanding of EHS principles and practices, regulatory standards, and requirements in context of business activities.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
