Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Manager

Job Summary:
The Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Manager will drive world class EHSS performance across the site in a diverse biotech/pharma environment. The role will be responsible for the execution of key EHSS processes including:

  • Management of site compliance with environmental permits and licenses
  • Trending and analysis of EHSS information and provide data intelligence and actions
  • Provide subject matter expertise for several EHSS programs including environmental compliance (air, water, waste), sustainability, ergonomics, EHS training, job hazard analysis, and EHS change control assessments.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manage key site Environmental Compliance tasks
  • Support laboratory clients with input from other EHSS subject matter experts within the Amgen community.
  • Partner with clients to advance safety culture and manage EHSS risks
  • Analyze metrics and establish annual action plans to drive continuous improvement.
  • Establish and execute risk assessment plans for clients to ensure all risks are proactively addressed and control systems are implemented and maintained
  • Ensure all changes with potential EHSS impact are assessed and controls are established prior to implementation
  • Ensure all hazards are identified and risks are proactively assessed
  • Establish safe work procedures for hazardous work
  • Conduct regular inspections of the work areas
  • Monitor incident trends and assist management in conducting incident investigations to implement robust corrective actions to prevent future incidents and injuries
  • Conduct regular EHSS management reviews with Client Leadership

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate Degree
  • Master's Degree and 3 years of experience in EHSS
  • Bachelors degree & 5 years of experience in EHSS
  • Strong understanding of EPA and MA DEP regulatory requirements applicable to biotech/pharma laboratory facilities
  • Strong understanding of Chemical and Biological manufacturing and laboratory operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry implementing industrial programs
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • RCRA and DOT training
  • MA Wastewater Operator License
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and influence management
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, action oriented, self-starting, program development and project management
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software systems
