- Design, develop and maintain software for controlling complex, custom, robotic, optical, and/or electromechanical automated instruments and systems.
- Rapidly master software written by others to modify, enhance, support previously developed complex instruments.
- Blend information from client scientific laboratories with engineering team needs to determine functional specifications.
- Negotiate and collaborate with instrument vendors to secure access to programming interfaces that enable integration of commercial instruments with customized components.
- Contribute to general instrument electrical, software, and mechanical engineering design decisions and problem solving.
Qualifications
Level and compensation will be commensurate with experience
- Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in electrical, computer, software, or other engineering with typically 8-10+(BS), 3-5+(MS) or 0+ (PhD) years of experience
- Hands-on research experience in developing software for control of complex electromechanical, optical, multisensory, and/or robotic systems
- Experience in multiple computer programming languages and the demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new languages
- Multidisciplinary understanding of how to solve engineering problems
