Job Details
We are seeking a creative and multidisciplinary scientist to join the Pre Therapeutic Target Discovery team. This team runs a large screening effort using genetically modified mice to identify and evaluate targets of therapeutic potential in a broad spectrum of therapeutic areas. The person in this role will be responsible for designing and implementing new assays to expand the scope of the screen and must be able to interface with all research departments in the company in order to fit assays to specific therapeutic areas. The person in this role will also be expected to select and pursue novel targets identified by the screen for clinical development and/or publication.
In this role, a typical day may include:
• Assay development, exploring gene function within multiple therapeutic areas.
• Collaboration with all major research areas of the company, and all technology core and support departments.
• Assays to develop may include: models of immune challenge (inflammation and autoimmune responses), behavioral tests, tumor models for oncology, and metabolic testing.
• Participation in data mining efforts and accurate application of statistical analysis.
• Technology development and integration within the screen, such as robotic automation, database integration, and participation in the design of machine learning algorithms in data analysis.
• Pursuit of exciting leads identified by the mouse phenotyping screen for clinical development and/or publication

To be considered for this role, you must have a minimum of a PhD or MD with 5-10 years of relevant experience. Expertise in disease modeling using genetically modified mice is required. Projects with cross disciplinary collaborations are particularly relevant. Experience in assay development is necessary, particularly in the fields of oncology, immunology, metabolism, or behavior. Experience in working with phenotyping screens would be ideal. A successful candidate will have expert scientific knowledge in more than one organ system and/or area of disease biology and the methods of exploration of that system.
