Position Summary
The test technician works in a small, cross functional team of capable and experienced engineers who are working to develop a novel therapeutic system that includes both capital equipment and disposable components. Working with our team, this position is ideal for those seeking a unique opportunity to design the next generation of medical device products in a fast paced, dynamic and mission focused company. The test technician brings to Fractyl hands-on experience with testing single use disposable products and capital equipment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform verification and validation testing including test method and fixture development, test execution, documentation, and write-up/analysis of results.
- Measure, analyze, and record testing results and summarize for the appropriate team members
- Understand design specifications and acceptance criteria. Contribute to risk analysis and implementation of risk mitigations.
- Prototype novel design and assembly concepts
- Execute manufacturing and test procedures
- Collaborate with external vendors for custom or off-the-shelf component ordering
- Participate in brainstorm sessions as necessary and appropriate
- Maintain a multi-functional engineering lab
- Work within company Quality System to coordinate documentation.
- Perform all activities in compliance with applicable regulations, Fractyl’s policies and guidelines, including, but not limited to, timely documentation of activities and maintaining all required applicable training.
- Bring a “can do” spirit to work and deliver on other responsibilities as assigned.
Education or Certification Requirements
- A degree in a technical field/engineering is a plus.
Professional Work Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on, technical experience with testing in the medical field
Qualifications and Skills
- To perform this job successfully, you need to possess superb skills relevant to the medical product development life cycle and bring to the team a desire to design and develop such products toward commercialization. A combination of requirements and preferences listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities that the successful candidate needs to possess.
- Required Technical Expertise:
- Knowledge of prototyping, measurement, debugging, and assembly techniques such as
- General rapid prototyping
- Gluing (cyanoacrylates, UV adhesives, etc.)
- Cable management
- Experience with basic machining equipment and power tools (Dremel, drill press, band saw, etc.)
- Experience with diagnostic tools (pressure gauges, multimeter, etc.)
- Knowledge of prototyping, measurement, debugging, and assembly techniques such as
- Test method development and execution
- Test fixture development and creation
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Required Technical Expertise:
- Preferred Technical Expertise:
- Instron (or equivalent tensile testing equipment) experience
- SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD design) experience
- Ability to read electrical diagrams
- Soldering
- 3D printer use and maintenance
- Knowledge of electrical codes and best practices
- Root-cause analysis and failure investigation
- Knowledge of statistical methodologies
