Senior/Bioinformatics Scientist

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a senior bioinformatics scientist to lead research efforts at the intersection of AAV engineering and data science within our burgeoning Technology Innovation group. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in collaborative research, analysis of large-scale functional genomic datasets, and applied machine learning. They will enjoy working collaboratively with machine learning scientists, engineers, and laboratory scientists on a range of exciting scientific problems. This is a unique opportunity to gain broad experience in a startup environment and to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

● Lead exploratory analyses of functional genomic and molecular datasets to drive new insights
● Build machine learning models from high-throughput screening data for AAV molecular engineering
● Contribute to the design, interpretation, and analysis of DNA library studies
● Grow into leadership roles by mentoring and training junior scientists and research associates
● Read and provide feedback on scientific papers and emerging technologies in NGS and AAV gene therapy
● Document, communicate, and present work to a broad audience both internally and externally in the form of meetings, presentations, and publications

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

● MS or PhD in bioinformatics, bioengineering, computer science, or equivalent
● 2-4 years relevant experience working in genomics or biotechnology preferred
● Strong foundation in applied machine learning, bioinformatics, and molecular biology
● Experience developing robust pipelines for processing and analyzing functional genomic and molecular data
● Experience with at least one scripting language (Python preferred) and one database language (e.g., SQL)
● Strong communication and presentation skills and ability to work cross-functionally
● Prior startup or gene therapy experience strongly preferred
