SUMMARY:
The Sr. Medical Director, Medical Affairs Neurology will serve as the most senior internal medical and scientific expert for assigned neurology product(s), developing and driving key medical strategies and tactics which align with Brand strategy. In collaboration with Director, Sc. Engagements, the Senior Medical Director will build and grow strong external partnerships. The Senior Medical Director will ensure accurate, robust and appropriate medical/scientific exchange of knowledge and clinical expertise with all stakeholders in the therapeutic area, being the internal medical/scientific point-person for all other programs (Brand Teams, Global Medical Focus Teams, Alliance Teams, etc.) necessary to reach corporate objectives and goals. The Senior Medical Director will also lead, manage, coach, and develop Associate Medical Directors and oversee the medical affairs strategy and plans execution and effective allocation of personnel and financial resources to support overall Lundbeck Medical Affairs objectives across Neurology therapeutic area.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • As a lead of Medical Strategy Team, the Senior Medical Director develops and drives medical strategies and oversees implementation and execution of key medical initiatives aligned with the Brand strategies in the Neurology therapeutic area with special focus on migraine prevention and anti-CGRP treatment.
  • Collaborates with cross functional stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment and adequate resource planning for annual Medical Affairs Neurology team objectives.
  • Provides US scientific and strategic input to the global Neurology Medical Focus Teams.
  • Leads, manages, coaches, and develops Associate Medical Directors to support high performance, and to align with strategic direction for Lundbeck.  
  • Anticipates Medical Affairs Neurology personnel future training needs, leads talent development and resource planning.
  • Participates in budgetary processes as part of annual business planning and review of expenses within US Medical Affairs Neurology.
  • Ensures medical affairs strategy planning and other processes are in place and consistently followed and optimized.   
  • Leads US Phase IV and IIT strategy planning and provides US strategic input to the Lundbeck Neurology products LCM plans based on the clinical and scientific knowledge and expertise and strong network in the US Neurology medical community.
  • In collaboration with Director, Communications, Sc. Engagements and Insights, maintains and further develops partnerships and network with key opinion leaders in the Neurology scientific community.
  • Reviews business development opportunities, translating business needs to clinically relevant development strategies that provide a competitive advantage. 
  • Supports regulatory interactions, including the submission of regulatory documents and presentations. 
  • Serves as a medical and scientific expert and works closely with the Patient Safety team within Lundbeck US.
  • Serves as a member of the safety committee.
  • Provides medical input into Promotional Advertising Review Committee for all promotional and external materials, and participation in Labeling meetings, where appropriate, with sign-off authorization.
  • Is involved in and develops SOPs for the activities conducted by Medical Affairs; ensuring all Medical Affairs Neurology team activities are following ICH and other international regulatory guidelines and follow relevant GCPs and SOPs.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:

  • Accredited MD
  • 9+ years of experience which may include a combination of progressive medical/scientific affairs experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry and relevant clinical or academia experience within CNS
  • Strong experience of collaborating with cross-functional teams, global medical affairs and commercial teams, as well as external healthcare providers/scientists, to meet shared objectives
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and prior people management
  • High proficiency in problem solving ability and strong scientific analytical skills
  • Excellent planning and organization skills 
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and integrity, representing the company’s high ethics, moral behavior, and professionalism 
  • Intimate knowledge of Regulatory/FDA requirements, as well as medical affairs compliance standards

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Migraine and aCGRP’s strongly experience
  • Specialty training in neurology (board certification or eligibility in neurology) 
  • Professional society membership(s) relevant to neurology.

 

TRAVEL

  • Willingness/Ability to travel up to 30% domestically. International travel may be required.

 

 

The range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Colorado, if selected for this role, and may vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. Salary Pay Range: $260,000 - $300,000 and eligibility for a 30% bonus target based on company and individual performance, and eligibility to participate in the company’s long-term incentive plan.
