Avidity Biosciences is pioneering a new class of oligonucleotide-based therapies called AOCs designed to overcome the current limitations of oligonucleotide therapies in order to treat a wide range of serious diseases. We utilize our proprietary AOC platform to design, engineer and develop therapeutics that combine the tissue selectivity of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and the precision of oligonucleotide-based therapies in order to access previously undruggable tissue and cell types and more effectively target underlying genetic drivers of diseases. Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Research Associate, chemistry to join our team in La Jolla. This is a hands-on position with responsibility for the design, synthesis, and analysis of antibody oligonucleotide conjugates. The ideal candidate will have biotech/pharma experience in aspects of medicinal chemistry, bioconjugation and nucleic acid therapeutics. The candidate is expected to be a strong team player, who enjoys scientific discovery and can communicate and collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment.
Primary Responsibilities:- Design, synthesis, purification and analysis of oligonucleotides, linkers, and protein/peptide/antibody conjugates
- Implement lead optimization strategies to advance AOCs into development
- Preparation and communication of research results in both oral and written formats
- BS or MS in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline with hands on organic synthesis experience
- Experience in HPLC purification and analytical methods for proteins and oligonucleotides
- Previous experience in biotech/pharma is highly desirable
- Proven ability to conduct self-directed research, and to work effectively in a dynamic environment with a diverse team of co-workers
- Solid written and oral communication skills, enthusiasm, integrity, self-motivation, strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail are necessary
