Job Details

We are looking for a R&D Specialist to join our Tech Dev group at VelociGene. Regeneron scientists developed VelociGene®, a proprietary group of technologies for the modification of the mouse genome. Our traditional function has been the development of technologies for gene modification. Recently, our group has devoted most of its efforts to the study of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), an invariably fatal neurodegenerative disease that results from the loss of motor neurons, the cells of the body that control voluntary muscle movement. The goal of the group's ALS research is to use mouse genetics to understand the mechanisms of disease and to develop genetically modified mice that can serve as models of ALS.

In this role a typical day might include:

•Designing and performing experiments to characterize in vitro and in vivo models of ALS and screen potential therapeutic approaches in these models.
•Using a variety of cell lines including mouse ES cells, iPSC-derived neurons to screen therapeutics.
•Isolating RNA from cells and mouse tissue and perform Real-time qPCR and  NanoString for quantification of gene changes from disease and therapeutic intervention.
•Performing data analysis on experimental data as well as troubleshooting under minimal direction.
•Staying current on relevant literature in order to further develop scientific expertise, new assays and expand scientific/technical knowledge and skill sets.
•Participating in group and departmental meetings and giving presentations.
•Contributing to writing of protocols and articles for publication.

This role might be for you if:
• You are interested in participating in our Technology Development efforts.

•You have strong communication and presentation skills.
•You thrive in a team environment and have strong collaborative skills.

•You can proactively work on multiple projects and prioritize as needed.
•You are excited to learn new technologies.

To be considered for this role, you must have a minimum of a Bachelor's in biology, molecular biology, neuroscience or related biological sciences, and a preferred 5 years of experience, Master’s degree with a preferred 3 years of relevant experience. We need someone with proven experience in qPCR TaqMan technology including RT-qPCR and basic cloning skills. Good understanding of mammalian genetics is essential. A solid understanding of experimental design, statistical analysis, and data presentation are also required. Hands-on knowledge of molecular biology and recombinant DNA technology. Hands-on experience with iPSCs and/or mouse ES cells, mammalian cell cultures is a plus. Basic understanding of bioinformatics methods, such as DNA sequence analysis and comparison, database searching, vector construction and primer design is recommended.
