  • The Transformational and Translational Immunology Discovery department is committed to driving patient-based drug discovery for autoimmune diseases and increase the probability of success of therapies in the clinic.  

     

    The Principal Scientist will be responsible for leading efforts related to rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthropathies through synthesis of patient molecular profiling, target identification and development of human translational models for target validation.  The successful candidate will develop strategies for identification of new targets for unmet patient populations based on mechanisms and pathways identified through patient profiling.  They will also identify and develop human-based assays that reflect the disease biology and can be used to evaluate potential therapies.  The successful candidate will have a strong expertise in immunology and rheumatoid arthritis disease biology as well as a demonstrated understanding of in vitro cellular assay development, with varied techniques, including flow cytometry, ELISA, cell based assays, and molecular approaches.  The successful candidate will serve a lead role within the department, build collaborations across functional areas and represent project-related work to senior management audiences.  Excellent written and verbal communication is required as well as critical evaluation and data-driven decision making.  In addition, the successful candidate may contribute to academic collaborations that will advance our understanding of mechanisms driving diseases of interest. 

     

    Job responsibilities:

  • Develop methods and strategies for identifying and validating new target project for the Discovery pipeline.
  • Work effectively with a team in a matrix environment including Precision Medicine, Pharmacogenomics, Systems Computational Biology to build a work plan and ensure alignment between stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicate in writing and orally ideas, strategy and data packages to varied audiences.
  • Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.
  • Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific conferences.
  • Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall program opportunities to pursue project relevant leads that are in line with the group’s strategy. 
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds.
  • May mentor/supervise a team of one or more and guide and evaluate the performance of those individuals; is accountable for the effective performance of the team/individuals.

Qualifications
  • Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD and 6+ years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and 12+ years of experience, Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and 14+ years of experience.
  • Effective writer and communicator of research materials.
  • Possess demonstrated expertise in immunology related to human autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, preferably rheumatoid arthritis.
