Encoded Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Scientist I – in vitro neurobiology research, to join our Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology group. This individual will work closely with other members of the group to develop and execute on primary neuron culture based assays to support program advancement from target identification to preclinical proof-of-concept. The successful candidate will primarily conduct in vitro studies using a wide range of biological tools and methods, and is expected to have strong experience with primary neuron culture from rodent brain and relevant experimental methods in neurobiology.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the program research team, provide technical experience, and design/execute/interpret rigorous in vitro studies using primary neuron culture
  • Design and perform molecular biology, biochemistry and/or electrophysiology assays, with a focus on in vitro primary neuron analysis. Select and run appropriate statistical tests.
  • Facilitate the development of a core to optimize and perform in vitro preclinical assays using primary neuronal culture.
  • Review relevant scientific literature and identify new/alternative approaches to address critical research questions or support the development of new techniques.
  • Manage external relationships with CROs when required.
  • Follow company guidelines and document experimental procedures and results in detail.
  • Present findings to interdisciplinary scientific teams to seek input on key studies and propose data-driven GO/NO GO decisions.

  • PhD in neuroscience or molecular biology with demonstrated technical proficiency related to hippocampal or cortical neuronal culture.
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques.
  • Willingness to perform tissue dissections.
  • Experience with IPSC-derived neurons as well as use of MEA for electrophysiological characterization of primary or IPSC-derived neurons is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to independently formulate a study plan based on overall project goals, and carry out a series of studies from start to finish
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills .
