JOB SUMMARY 

Biological Dynamics is seeking a Senior Research Associate in the Research Proteomics Team at our San Diego site to perform studies supporting the research and development of novel biomarker assays. You will contribute to planning, execution, and data analysis of studies under the guidance of senior scientists, supporting growth of IVD products through feasibility to development stages. This hands-on position provides the opportunity to contribute to the development of an innovative diagnostic platform as part of our growing company. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, innovative teammate with experience in developing IVD assays from the ground up, with a solid understanding of protein biochemistry, and hands-on experience working with antibodies and other biochemical assays.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Perform mission-critical experiments to support the development and optimization of novel assays on the company’s platform.
  • Plan, execute, and perform data analysis of research experiments, such as protein-based assays and immunoassays.
  • Find creative and practical solutions to a wide range of cross-disciplinary technical challenges.
  • Use analytical and statistical techniques to characterize experimental results.
  • Effectively troubleshoot tests, assays, and experiments under supervision.
  • Maintain a clear and complete log of research results in electronic form, following quality systems requirements; organize experiments and findings into databases.
  • Communicate results and assist in preparing research summaries.
  • Ensure laboratory activities are performed in compliance with safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Provide training and some guidance for junior team members
  • Collaborate with engineers and clinical laboratory members to transition development protocols into clinical production.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • BS in Biochemistry, Bioengineering or similar field and 5+ years of experience, or MS with 3+ years of experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in a laboratory performing immunoassays and protein work.
  • Self-motivated with superior organization and observation skills.
  • Experience in developing and optimizing biochemical and/or immunoassays.
  • Working knowledge of antibody fundamentals and pairing.
  • Solid working experience in a wide variety of protein purification, detection, and identification techniques (e.g. Western Blots, microscopy, chromatography, centrifugation, enzyme assays).
  • Experience in cancer biology and/or exosomes is desirable.
  • Experience with development of clinical laboratory tests under CAP/CLIA or FDA-regulated environments.
  • Ability to perform calculations of molarity and concentration is required.
  • Ability to learn and perform complex, multi-step procedures involving newly-developed (RUO) software and systems.
  • Familiarity with data analysis in JMP, Excel or equivalent software.
  • Ability to communicate research results in a clear and concise fashion.
  • Ability to work in a team-based setting.
  • Excellent work ethic with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
