AbbVie Immunology is expanding its early discovery team in Boston, Massachusetts. The early discovery team in Boston is focused on identifying new targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases through computational analysis of human disease tissue derived datasets, and through validating targets using in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches. The successful candidate will have a strong background in extracellular vesicles analysis, molecular biology and immunology and a demonstrated ability to design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret experiments independently.  The successful candidate will have expertise in molecular techniques such as RNA isolation and analysis by qPCR, and RNA sequencing. The successful candidate will develop and implement in vitro assays to analyze exosome composition and work within broader teams to assay exosome functionality.  The ability to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, represent program-related work to senior management and external collaborators will be required. 

Core Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Extracellular vesicle isolation and characterization from biofluids and cell culture media
  • Facilitate in vitro assay development and execution to support therapeutic programs in immunology
  • High throughput RNA and DNA extraction from clinical/human and rodent samples
  • Transcriptomic analysis of RNA from human and animal samples
  • Analysis of large omic datasets for target identification
  • Effective communication of results in a timely manner in written and oral form

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BS or equivalent education with typically 5-7+ years of experience or MS or equivalent education with typically 2-5+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
  • Ability to multitask and work within timelines.
  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.
  • 5+ years experience working in a BSL-2 environment.
  • 4+ years experience with extracellular vesicle isolation and characterization.
  • 1+ years experience with RNA Sequencing data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of immunology / early target discovery is a plus.
  • Prior experience working in a research lab in an industrial setting.
