About the Role

The ideal candidate for this role will have prior software development experience and skills in several of our relevant tools and languages and comfortable with design and development on both front end and back end.  You will help to maintain existing internal applications, contribute to new software construction as part of a team, participate in various tests and software bug fixing, and serve requests from our clients and partners. The candidate will report to the VP of Integration.

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Collaborate with internal engineers and scientists as well as partner companies to understand use cases and translate them into wireframes, mock-ups, and live interfaces.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to UI/UX in both broad approach and detail.
  • Assist in translation of project goals into sprint plans and tasks.
  • Collaborate with internal engineers and scientists to identify when to undertake activities like technology improvement and factoring.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for code re-use and where current development efforts can be leveraged to meet expected future goals.
  • Responsible for software module or package development.
  • Maintain and improve internal operational web-based interfaces.
  • Responsible for installing, testing, and validating our software applications on robotic workstations.
  • Work with and oversee external contractors when necessary.
  • Provide progress, and reports to supervisors.
  • Provide technical training to internal users and support staff.
  • Identify problems and suggest improvements.
  • Create clean and orderly code.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or related STEM disciplines.
  • 2+ years of prior software development experience.
  • Experienced in coding using JavaScript/React/Node, Java, C#, and/or Python.
  • Familiar with Git, efficiently working with an IDE like VS code, Visual Studio, Intellij and/or PyCharm.
  • Experience using AWS services like EC2, ELB, RDS, and S3.
  • Prior exposure to AWS based CI/CD, as well as packaging tools like Advanced Installer preferred.
  • Know how to write complex SQL queries, having exposure to MySql or other modern RDBMS systems.
  • Ability to work closely within a team as well as to interact with diverse members of the company at large.
  • Remote work, available to meet daily with staff in San Diego during business hours in California.
  • Familiar with collaborative tools such as Jira, Confluence, Teams, Zoom and/or Slack.
  • Able to work full time.
