ROLE SUMMARY

The Vaccine Engineering Technician serves as the technical SME on all Sterile Inspection lines. The Vaccine Engineering Tech also oversees all Operator Care activities and changeovers on both automated and semi-automated lines. The Vaccine Engineering Tech will work on special projects and assist engineering and maintenance with trouble shooting, validation, preventive maintenance, and other miscellaneous support. The Vaccine Engineering Tech will also run lines and be expected to know duties and responsibilities of Line Coordinator, and Material Handler positions. The Vaccine Engineering Tech will also be required to learn and be qualified in manual visual inspection performing basic, repetitive manufacturing or packaging operations.

In order to move from Vaccine Tech Assistant to Vaccine Engineering Tech, the colleague must be fully trained on running and changing over all of the lines in Sterile Inspection. The colleague must be trained and experienced on Operator Care activities for all of the lines in Sterile Inspection. The colleague must have demonstrated leader behaviors as a Vaccine Tech Assistant and must have participated in special projects and assisted plant professionals as needed.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vaccine Engineering Technician will be required to set-up, operate, change-over, maintain, and basic troubleshoot Inspection equipment used in Injectable Inspection. The Vaccine Engineering Technician will monitor, evaluate and adjust processes or equipment to maximize quality and efficiency, and make some minor repairs as required. The Vaccine Engineering Technician will be responsible for completion of batch records, associated documentation Work Center Performance Monitoring (WPM) and SAP entries. The Vaccine Engineering Technician will be responsible for helping to train other Packaging Technicians, Line Coordinators and Inspection Operators. Additional responsibilities may include running the lines, coordinate startups and clearances. The Vaccine Engineering Technician will coordinate with maintenance to complete repairs and develop solutions to mechanical hindrances. The Vaccine Engineering Technician will provide support to the Vaccine Technician Assistants, Production Specialist, Leads and Plant Professionals for new equipment, and upgrades to existing equipment. The Vaccine Engineering Technician will need to effectively communicate with other line colleagues and support personnel. The Vaccine Engineering Technician will ensure all tasks are performed in accordance with applicable safety guidelines, as well as appropriate processing standards, SOP’s such as FDA's current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education/Experience: The successful candidate will have a HS diploma or GED with a required minimum of 4 years applicable experience or a BA/BS degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physical/Biological Sciences, Business, Integrated Supply Management, or related applicable discipline that will enable the team to meet its mission.

  • Certificates, Licenses or Registrations: Powered Industrial Vehicle (Low Lift / Motorized Hand Lift)

  • Language Skills: Good oral and written communication skills

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate percentages as well as multiplication and division

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to analyze and troubleshoot automated equipment and processes

  • Physical Demands: Repetitive bending, lifting, and twisting as well as standing for extended periods of time.

  • Work Environment: Colleague is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The light level in the work environment is lowered to accommodate inspection processes. Use eye protection is required.

Math and reading skills required for SOP, GMP and Batch Record comprehension. Ability to contribute to department success in a team environment and perform tasks at a productive level under demanding conditions is mandatory. Must be self-motivated and willing to learn new and changing responsibilities. Requires a demonstrated ability to self-direct daily activities to meet production schedule.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Works a 7-2, 7-2, 7-3 work schedule.  Over a four week period, works Mon-Sun (7 days), off Mon-Tues (2 days), works Wed-Tues (7 days), off Wed-Thurs (2 days), works Fri-Thurs (7 days), & off Fri-Sun (3 days).  Weekend, holiday, and overtime may be required to meet business or customer needs.  This operation will work 24x7x365.
