About the role

As a Senior Research Associate within the In Vivo Pharmacology group, the individual filling this position will have three primary responsibilities: (1) execute in vivo studies to support gene therapy and cell therapy research programs at Sana, via close collaboration with other members of the IVP team, (2) carry out in vitro work related to in vivo studies, and (3) to support unmet needs across the Pharmacology and Toxicology organization. The position will also require close communication and collaboration with research groups at Sana outside of the Pharmacology and Toxicology organization.

What you'll do
  • Work closely with study lead to plan and execute in vivo studies
  • Support tissue collection and processing for downstream assays including flow cytometry, RNA seq, ELISA, Luminex, MSD, and histology
  • Support in vitro work (e.g. cell culture) to enable in vivo studies
  • Support cross-functional groups within Pharmacology/Toxicology team and across Sana sites
  • Diligently record data and analyses using proper software (e.g. Graphpad), electronic notebook (Benchling)
  • Effectively design, develop, manage, and track all aspects of non-clinical in vivo studies
  • Monitor and execute multiple in vivo studies in collaboration with team members ensuring proper dosing, sampling, harvesting and implementation of study activities
  • Analyze data and generate study reports in collaboration with partner scientists
  • Present study design and data interpretation at internal group, department or Project Team meetings and where appropriate present externally at relevant scientific meetings
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior associates

What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 4+ years of laboratory experience in the biotech or pharma industry
  • Demonstrated expertise in basic laboratory techniques and functions is required as is proficiency in common office software (typically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graphpad, FlowJo)
  • Experience in developing in vitro and in vivo assays and deploying these methods at scale in a collaborative research environment
  • Extensive hands-on experience with the isolation and culture of mammalian cell lines and primary cells with demonstrated competence in sterile cell culture technique and standard laboratory procedures
  • Experience in working with mice
  • Proficiency with standard molecular biology and cell biology techniques (RNA isolation and reverse-transcription, qPCR, protein analysis, ELISA, cell co-culture, cell staining for Flow Cytometry and Lentivirus transduction)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot technical and scientific issues, both individually and part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability adapt communication style to interact effectively with a range of collaborators including research associates, technical experts, computational biologists, cell biologists, and therapeutic teams
  • Strong organizational, record keeping, and data documentation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail and data quality, and experience working on diverse collaborative teams
