What You Will AchievePfizer Boulder R&D (formerly Array BioPharma), located in Boulder, CO, is focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of targeted small molecule drugs to treat patients afflicted with cancer. The research group in Boulder was responsible for the recent development and launch of BRAFTOVI (encorafenib) and MEKTOVI (binimetinib) for patients with BRAF-mutant melanoma. These products have also been granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation by the FDA for BRAF-mutant colorectal cancer.

The Structural Biology group at Pfizer Boulder R&D has an open position for a Senior Scientist-level biophysicist. Our highly collaborative team has expertise in molecular/cell biology, protein biochemistry, structural biology, and biophysics. As part of the team, the successful candidate will contribute to early drug discovery advancements and IND-enabling studies across multiple projects. The preferred candidate will have experience with, and a deep understanding of, the biophysical characterization of protein-small molecule interactions, including those that are challenging to interrogate. This individual will be highly motivated, innovative, excel in team environments, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where projects and priorities shift quickly.
How You Will Achieve ItDesign and execute biophysical assays and disseminate results that are critical to project advancement
Establish purification protocols and purify recombinant proteins from host cells
Document and communicate (written and oral) research priority, progress, and results with project teams
Provide technical and scientific guidance to junior research associates within the team
Doctoral degree (Biophysics, Biochemistry, Structural Biology or related field) with 0 – 2 years of postdoctoral experience or a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree with equivalent laboratory experience
Hands-on experience and a deep knowledge of leveraging SPR (Biacore preferred) to understand protein-small molecule interactions. This includes experimental design, assay optimization, and data analysis
Experience in the expression of recombinant proteins in E. coli systems and purification of challenging targets
Strong data analysis, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and embrace the ideas of others
Protein MS experience and knowledge of Agilent Q-TOF routine maintenance are highly desired
Excellent knowledge of other standard biophysical tools used to characterize protein-small molecule interactions including, but not limited to, MST, ITC, and DSF
Primary interactions of this position will be with Boulder colleagues within the Structural Biology group. Interdepartmental communication with Enzymology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Computational Chemistry will be common. Occasional interactions with external service vendors are also expected.

Able to lift 50lb objects with dimensions of 12 inches in height and 26 inches in width
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Able to adhere to safe lab practices with appropriate PPE such as, but not limited to, safety goggles, face mask, gloves, lab coat/protective gowning, and closed-toe shoes
Able to work flexible hours occasionally when performing time-sensitive experiments

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $80,000.00 to $133,300.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
