Position Summary:

The Senior Scientific Research Analyst will serve as a subject knowledge expert in cancer research and work with an inter-departmental team in concert with an external panel of key opinion leaders to develop, market, and distribute the organization’s annual progress reports which highlight recent advances against cancer and other timely topics. The position reports to the Senior Editor and Scientific Advisor.  The position reports to the Senior Editor and Scientific Advisor.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject knowledge expert in cancer research to advance AACR’s robust scientific agenda; stay abreast of the recent advances in all areas of cancer research including basic and translational science, population science, preclinical and clinical research, and oncology drug approvals.
  • Work as part of a team to develop content for the annual AACR Cancer Progress Reports which highlight recent breakthroughs against cancer and other timely topics.
  • Prepare and finalize scientific documents for dissemination to the cancer research community such as, but not limited to, posts on the website, commentaries, expert remarks for leaders of steering committees, and perspective pieces on current topics in cancer science and medicine.
  • Participate in various AACR scientific forums (innovation summits, task force meetings, scientific working group meetings, etc.) and prepare scientific articles as well as white papers for use by the AACR as well as key opinion leaders and other external audiences.
  • Travel to AACR conferences, innovation summits, and educational workshops to stay abreast of the state-of-the-art science and prepare written reports for internal and external use.
  • Prepare scientific presentations on selected topics for AACR leadership.
  • Liaise with IT and Communications Departments to manage and coordinate the production and maintenance of the websites designated to the Cancer Progress Reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

 

Job Qualifications

  •  Seven to ten years of relevant scientific or medical writing experience in academic, government, or pharmaceutical industry setting after the completion of postdoctoral training.
  • Strong background in cancer research is required;
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills; must be able to communicate science to members of the scientific community as well as the lay public.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, including being capable of working effectively with AACR colleagues, members, and leaders.
  • Ability to interpret, summarize, and present scientific information to ensure quality and accuracy of content.
  • Knowledge of the drug development process including clinical trials and FDA approval of oncology drugs.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines as established by production timelines.
  • Proven track record of managing large projects and coordinating multiple, simultaneous, and diverse workflows.
  • Proficiency with computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and citation management tools such as Mendeley or Endnote.

Education and Experience:

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree, preferably in cancer or a related scientific field.
  • Three to five years of postdoctoral experience in cancer or a related scientific field with a record of excellent peer-reviewed publications.
