ROLE SUMMARY
Pfizer’s Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) is focused on developing therapies for rare inherited diseases, including rare muscle, cardiac, and neurological disorders. The successful candidate will be a member of the rare cardiac disease research team and will be focused on the progression of therapies to treat these life threatening diseases. She/he will have extensive experience with in vivo rodent evaluation of cardiac structure and function. The candidate is expected to have excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and presentation skills (written and oral) and will need to effectively communicate with internal and external partners.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and conduct experiments that advance the development of candidate therapies for rare cardiac diseases.
- Perform experimental studies, carry out data analyses and interpretation, record results in an electronic lab notebook, and stay abreast of novel relevant findings from the literature.
- Interface with internal interdisciplinary teams.
- Support in vivo work for other projects in the RDRU portfolio as needed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. or MS with 7+ years of experience or Ph.D. with 3+ years of experience in molecular biology, physiology, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on experience working with in vivo models of heart disease, including echo cardiography, with demonstrable skill and quality.
- Experience with culturing induced pluripotent stem cells and cardiomyocytes is desirable.
- Must be willing to work with live rodents and cells/tissues of human origin.
- Familiarity with standard cell and molecular biology methods including but not limited to cell culture, siRNA and plasmid transfections, immunoassays such as ELISAs and western blotting, and quantitative real-time PCR.
- Experience supporting a multidisciplinary project team including the ability to generate high quality data in a time-sensitive environment, to assimilate new information from multiple sources, and to effectively communicate with internal scientists.
- Creativity, self-motivation and the ability to work independently including analysis and troubleshooting of experimental results and reviewing literature to formulate new approaches.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with any cardiac disease research.
- Experience working in or collaborating with industry.
