Day One (NASDAQ: DAWN) was founded to address a critical unmet need: children with cancer are being left behind in a cancer drug development revolution. Our name was inspired by the “The Day One Talk” that physicians have with patients and their families about an initial cancer diagnosis and treatment plan. We aim to re-envision cancer drug development and redefine what’s possible for all people living with cancer—regardless of age—starting from Day One.

  • Contribute to translational research in oncology, including designing and executing strategies for patient selection and biomarker development across all pipeline programs
  • Drive in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies from design to completion to support hypothesis-driven patient stratification strategies, identify and validate novel biomarkers, and guide potential combination strategies in both pediatric and adult oncology programs
  • Develop translational research plans for biomarker selection and validation, and successfully implement key biomarkers into clinical trials in collaboration with the Clinical Development group
  • Select, establish, and manage relationships with external CROs and academic collaborators for translational research
  • Support development of companion diagnostic assays in collaboration with clinical, diagnostic, and regulatory groups
  • Actively participate in internal and external scientific meetings through presentations and critically evaluate both internal results and emerging scientific literature

Experience:

  • 7+ years of drug development in biopharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated solid scientific background and understanding of small molecule oncology drug development, patient indication and combination strategies
  • Experience in developing pharmacodynamic, predictive and exploratory biomarkers for oncology drug development programs

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience and demonstrated skills in translating mechanistic biology, in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies into clinical biomarker, patient stratification, and combination strategies
  • Experience managing CROs and consultants; experience working in partnership with academic collaborators
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate data and its impact on program strategy
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, and ability to work as effective team member in highly collaborative, fast-paced start-up biotech work environment
