Senior Scientist II: Drug Metabolism, Pharmacokinetics, and Bioanalysis – AbbVie Inc.

The Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics Department at AbbVie has an opening for a Senior Scientist II position in North Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will be responsible for independently researching and implementing LC-MS techniques to support small molecule bioanalysis, along with providing insight and support to custom DMPK based experiments.  If interested, please refer to job posting 2111876 on the Abbvie.com/careers website.

Key Responsibilities Include:  

  • Research and develop in-vitro/in-vivo and exploratory biomarker LC-MS assays.
  • Identify and troubleshooting instrument and assay problems.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and implement new methodologies, platforms, and technologies to meet challenging assay requirements while maintaining effective resource utilization.
  • Act as the project leader on multiple projects, interacting with collaborators and internal project teams to understand study impact, define project needs and priorities, and present study outcomes.
  • Mentoring junior scientists.

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • PhD (3+ years), M.S. (10+ years), or B.S. (13+ years) in analytical chemistry or related field with relevant academic/pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Familiarity with current LC-MS/MS platforms (for examples, RapidFire, ADDA, and Leap autosamplers, Sciex API-6500/7500 triple quads) and software (e.g. Discovery Quant, Analyst, Electronic notebooks) and automated sample preparation platforms. Working experience with high resolution MS for the bioanalysis of large molecules will be a plus.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and an ability to collaborate successfully across other groups within R&D.
  • Working experience of regulated bioanalysis and/or CRO settings will be a plus.
  • Knowledge of ADME science/assays (Metabolic Stability, DDI/TDI, Protein Binding, Clearance assays, etc…) with an understanding of both experimental design and analytical practices will be a plus.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly motivated and self-driven with the flexibility to quickly adapt to different projects.
  • Embraces the ideas of others, nurtures innovation and manages innovation to reality.
  • Creates a learning environment, open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement
