The Impact You’ll Make

• Promote a DevSecOps culture at Recursion. You’ll partner with teams throughout Recursion to help them develop and improve their capabilities to deliver and operate software quickly and reliably.
• Promote learning within the team by researching and testing new approaches, tooling, and practices before they are expected to be needed, and partner with other teams to promote learning and improvement across the tech organization.
• Improve infrastructure to be as efficient as possible. When you are processing 70+ terabytes of new images a week, and training models against large image sets from our over 3.5+ petabytes of images, optimization can make a big difference.
• Mentor, coach, grow, and empower your team by giving them the skills, confidence, and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to their personal and professional success, and help them to become technical leaders.
• Participate in deep technical discussions within your team and across partner teams, with extra attention toward driving down ambiguity and clarifying unknowns.
• You’ll collaborate to establish and deliver on quarterly goals, setting and adjusting expectations based on regular, iterative feedback from prototypes and delivering software tooling and infrastructure into production.
• Recruit and grow an inclusive team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, and onboarding new employees.

The Team You’ll Join 

The Infrastructure and Tools team is a team of engineers with backgrounds in infrastructure automation, software development, security, and machine learning. The team develops tools and infrastructure automation which plays an essential role in enabling people throughout the tech organization to deliver new functionality to help us find treatments for disease. Every software engineer, data scientist, and automation engineer should be able to make changes that ship to production in an automatic manner, and tooling supported by the team should make it as easy as possible to create new services, integrate them with our infrastructure and observability tooling, and deliver in an automated and reliable manner. You will report to the Director of Engineering.

The Experience You’ll Need

• 5+ years of delivering infrastructure or software in production environments.
• Experience leading technical teams using both technical and interpersonal skills to achieve results.
• Past record of learning from and teaching peers in areas of performance, scalability, observability, and system architecture.
• Experience with some of our existing infrastructure or similar technologies. We currently use kubernetes (GKE, Rancher), nginx ingress controller, prometheus for the majority of our metrics, PostgreSQL for most databases. We use Python and the PyData stack, clojure, and javascript (React).
  
• Comfortable working with current tools and methodologies to deploy and maintain infrastructure. We use terraform and kubernetes for the majority of what we deliver and are making a push towards using GitOps style workflows for all of these resources.

Biology background is not necessary, but intellectual curiosity is a must!
