JOB SUMMARY:   

Sangamo Therapeutics is seeking an innovative scientist to support the development of automated processes for gene assembly. The successful candidate will contribute to the discovery and advancement of novel therapeutics across all clinical programs. This is a highly-collaborative, hands-on position at the interface of discovery and translational research activities. The position requires creativity, organization, leadership, attention to detail, excellent communication and presentation skills, and a capacity for constant innovation in pursuit of company goals.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Develop and implement robust and scalable automation solutions for gene assembly processes and cellular screening.
  • Lead requirement gathering, planning, and execution of hardware / software solution selection and implementation.
  • Contribute to protocol generation, report writing, and results presentation.
  • Provide regular automation training and company-wide automation support.
  • Works with IT and Bioinformatics teams to establish HT sample tracking and data management.
  • Acts as point of contact with automation vendors and manages preventative maintenance, calibration, and validation scheduling.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS degree in a life sciences discipline
  • 5+ years of industry experience, will accept combination of advanced scientific degrees with less industry experience.
  • Experience programming liquid handling systems, e.g. Tecan and Biomek.
  • Experience developing solutions for molecular biology, NGS library prep and/or cell screening workflows.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, detailed, and a multitasker.
  • Highly self / solution driven who can work independently or with a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Skilled in one or more of the following software languages: C#, VBScript, JavaScript, Python, C++, Java.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with Benchling ELN/LIMS
  • Familiarity with REST API usage
