Under supervision of the Site Head, the Laboratory Operations Manager will be responsible for the overall support of Fujifilm's Watertown, MA Process Development laboratory including general facility operation, equipment maintenance & calibration, and maintaining the inventory of materials/supplies.  This position will work closely with supporting groups at Fujifilm's Texas facility (FDBT) and with contractors to perform these functions.

This position provides an opportunity for professional growth as Fujifilm expands into the Boston area.  This position will help startup Fujifilm's initial Boston facility comprised of laboratories dedicated to Process & Analytical Development.  Fujifilm's expansion will continue in 2023 when the PD/AD lab is moved to a new 36,000 sq.ft. space that adds the capability for clinical GMP manufacturing.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure that the facility, equipment, and utilities are maintained and fully operational
  • Manage service providers responsible for instrumentation/equipment calibration, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and demand service/repair
  • Assist with the budgetary management for the laboratory operations
  • Create operational procedures for shipping/receiving, lab consumable inventory management, and lab asset management to optimize lab operation
  • Train the lab teams on the above procedures
  • Maintain inventory of commonly used lab supplies, gases and work with service providers to develop and maintain material forecasts
  • Collaborate with FDBT Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) to develop and maintain a safe workplace including maintenance of permits, incidents investigation, and management of regulated waste
  • Work with FDBT Engineering and service providers to develop a spare parts strategy and maintain stock of parts within budget
  • Work with FDBT Engineering to maintain automated systems for lab equipment data and information systems.
  • Maintain electronic records in the Blue Mountain CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • Interact with local regulatory agencies
  • Maintain ongoing communication with contractors, clients, and team

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • 5 plus years of relevant experience in laboratory management
  • Strong understanding of laboratory operations, equipment, and materials
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations and safe work practices preferred but not required
  • Team player with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Ability to develop and draft clear procedures for operations and maintenance documentation
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint); ERP applications (SAP) and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) knowledge preferred but not required
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments with little supervision

  • Must be able work weekends, off-shifts, and overtime as required

  • Lift up to 40 pounds unassisted and up to 60 pounds with assistance
  • Work in high places and/or in cold temperatures

  • Attendance is mandatory

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in any biology or related field with 5+ years of experience
  • Associates degree or a Biotech certificate from approved program with at least (5) five years of laboratory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing process development laboratories
  • Experience with Blue Mountain RAM
