PacBio has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Global Tax. At Pacific Biosciences (NASDAQ: PACB), we are passionate about developing high-quality, innovative technologies and systems that impact areas of critical importance, including human biomedical research, plant and animal sciences, and microbiology and infectious disease studies. In particular, our technology is being used for pandemic surveillance with scientists assessing potential COVID-19 mutations based on sequencing data generated from our sequencing platforms. Our unique long-read gene sequencing technology generates complete and highly accurate data, giving scientist more insights. The Role & The Team

This highly visible leadership position reports to the Chief Accounting Officer and will lead the company's tax function, developing PacBio's tax strategies and the required processes and systems. The Director, Global Tax, must have the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, think innovatively and drive change. The successful candidate will need to develop deep relationships with all levels of the team and advisors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct all aspects of taxation with the company, including strategy, planning, financial reporting and compliance
    • Oversee and review the quarterly and year-end income tax provisions in accordance with US GAAP
    • Oversee the preparation of all direct, indirect and information tax returns for the Company and all subsidiaries
    • Establish scalable process and systems to ensure accuracy and efficient completion of nexus studies, R&D credit study and IRC 382 analysis.
  • Manage relationship with external tax advisors, negotiate fees, implement systems, and process improvements to simplify compliance process
  • Responsible for international tax compliance, including transfer pricing, management fee arrangements and customs duties
  • Partner with internal teams on employee-related tax issues, including payroll tax, T&E, stock-based compensation, and global mobility
  • Act as technical expert for major tax law changes, understand the impact to the company, identify tax savings opportunities and implement systems/processes to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Manage relationship with external auditors relating to tax matters
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls in accordance with SOX 404

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Business required, Master's Degree in Business Administration a plus
  • CPA with Big 4 Accounting experience required, with previous tax and operational finance experience in high growth companies
  • Minimum of 15 years of tax experience
  • Strong leadership skills and proactive problem-solving approach
  • Life science and manufacturing industry experience a plus
  • Strategic thinking and leadership experience with an emphasis on relationship management and interacting with all levels within an organization as well as with external auditors
  • Ability to establish and maintain best practices, policies, processes, and internal controls
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
  • Strong system skills (SAP, Microsoft Suite)
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented self-starter; ability to work independently and collaborate to meet deadlines; effectively work with team to expedite completion of critical projects
  • Collaborative business partner, adept in building cross-functional relationships to drive results
  • Ability to inspire action and coordinate simultaneous initiatives
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop and mentor staff
  • Proven track record in driving projects and process improvement initiatives
