Senior Scientist, Oligonucleotide Chemistry

Elsie Biotechnologies is an early-stage company, inspired by Rosalind Elsie Franklin, that works to discover the next generation of oligonucleotide therapeutics. Elsie’s technology enables the identification, optimization and synthesis of these constructs that can be used to tackle the most puzzling problems in human disease. Elsie’s mission is to deliver patients safer and more efficacious therapeutic products.

Position Overview:

Elsie is looking for a Senior Scientist to help build out and lead a team of scientists in the development and validation of novel chemical construction techniques for the optimization of oligonucleotide therapeutics. The individual must thrive in an independent, fast paced, and constantly evolving environment. An ideal candidate will be a “jack of all trades” and be able to tackle any oligonucleotide chemistry problem we might have.

Our ideal candidate will bring a wide breadth of experience from solid phase synthesis (SPOS) to the experimentation with synthesized biopolymers.  In this role, you will work closely with other teams to design and optimize sequence and chemistry of next gen oligonucleotide drugs. Experience in oligonucleotide chemistry and RNAi biology is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize sequence and chemistry of next gen oligonucleotide drugs
  • Responsible for operating/maintaining an automated oligo synthesizer
  • Optimize and troubleshoot SPOS protocols using novel chemistries
  • Document experiments and results in a regulatory compliant manner
  • Effectively communicate results, ideas and strategies in presentations and written reports
  • Assist to hire, train and mentor research staff as needed
  • Work across all functional groups to meet timelines and facilitate development
  • Maintain scientific knowledge and critically evaluate scientific literature and industry trends in order to contribute to research efforts
  • Write abstracts and present posters at scientific meetings
  • Work on and contribute to other projects as needed and assigned

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, chemical biology or biochemistry required
  • RNAi chemistry
  • Solid phase oligonucleotide synthesis (SPOS)
  • Post SPOS cleavage and desalting of oligonucleotides
  • Wet lab chemistry techniques
  • HPLCMS analysis of oligonucleotides
  • Synthesis of nucleoside monomers
  • Analysis of oligonucleotides in biochemical assays
  • Familiarity with modified oligos (PS/PS2/LNA etc.)
  • Basic biochemical manipulations, screening, and selections
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and positive, can-do approach
  • Familiarity with basic NGS, theory and library preparation techniques

Elsie offers competitive compensation, benefits, and stock options.  More importantly, we offer an outstanding opportunity to join, contribute to, grow with and excel in our dynamic start-up culture.   All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, national origin, genetics, disability, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other protected categories.

Send your cover letter and resume for immediate consideration.
