Strateos is a robotic cloud lab with the goal of transforming biology and chemistry into information sciences. We leverage data, computation, and high throughput robotics to enable new approaches in many areas of molecular biology and chemical synthesis.  Our platform enables on-demand life science research by integrating laboratory processes, instruments, and IoT technologies into a single user interface.

We want:

Strateos is looking for a Senior Scientist with strong laboratory and organizational skills to lead our local assay development and operations team. Experience complying with federal, state and local regulations required. Our services range from DNA and protein work to downstream functional assays, and this position helps clients achieve those experimental endpoints and everything in between.

In this position, you would guide the team to execute customer experiments, help to generate and collect data supporting the reproducibility and quality control on our scientific platform, and assist in developing and implementing tools to increase operational efficiency. This includes performing general lab upkeep, working cross-functionally to develop operational processes, instrument maintenance and quality control, training fellow laboratory members in proper instrument usage, and assisting with assay transfer within the organization.

You have:

  • A PhD in biology, chemistry, bioengineering or other relevant field with 6+ years of experience in lab management in a screening or high-throughput facility.  Bachelor’s or Master’s will be considered with appropriate related experience.
  • Proficiency with basic laboratory techniques, assay development and experimental workflows
  • Assay development and lab automation systems and software experience
  • Experience with lab regulations and permits in California as well as generating training materials
  • Experience conducting routine lab inspections and safety best practices
  • Ability to generate operations statistics ranging from reagent usage to capacity
  • Knowledge establishing procurement and sourcing relationships with vendors and partners
  • Ability to implement processes to manage common lab supplies, stock inventory, and ordering of supplies
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Great oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to translate a high-level goal into action with minimal guidance
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and autonomous environment
  • A track record of building and implementing processes and documentation methodologies in past roles

You might also have:

  • Experience managing projects at a biotechnology company in a client-facing role
  • A basic understanding of python or other programming language
  • Previous engineering experience
  • Project management experience
  • Implementation of life cycle strategies including management of service contracts for automation and equipment
