Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Mgr-Research Lab Ops.



The Senior Manager reports directly to the Director, Research Laboratory Operations, and is responsible for directing all aspects of facilities management functions as assigned for laboratory and research operations in the research portfolio as a member of the Research Lab operations (RLO) team. In this capacity, shall be responsible for coordinating infrastructure support for laboratory operations in all research laboratories and scientific core facilities as assigned by the Director, Research Laboratory Operations, assisting with laboratory renovation, repair, and relocations for the buildings in this portfolio in collaboration with RED F, the Division of Advanced Research Technologies (DART) and the Office of Science and Research OSR leadership. Serves as liaison for collaborative efforts related to research infrastructure support with the Division of Advanced Research Technologies (DART), Real Estate Development & Facilities (REDF) and the Office of Scientific Research OSR as assigned by associate dean.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a OSR research operations liaison to department administrators, principal investigators, directors of research cores and laboratory staff in NYULH buildings with research assets, to ensure that the infrastructure, organizational and collaborative needs of the NYULH research enterprise are met.
  • Coordinate and support laboratory renovations and repairs and relocations with RED F project management and facilities operations teams.
  • Serve as on-site liaison to departments and institutes administration and faculty with tasks associated with faculty on- and off-boarding for assigned buildings
  • Maintain up-to-date research space occupancy and utilization data in support of space management needs as well as F&A proposal submissions.
  • Support capital equipment lifecycle tracking
  • Support laboratory membership tool tracking.
  • Support research space assignment mapping in research buildings and audit of existing assignment maps as needed.
  • Serve as OSR point of contact to NYULMC Security for assigned buildings.
  • Coordinate with Materials Management for deliveries of research materials to the tenant occupied buildings in the research portfolio as needed.
  • Serve as building liaison to EM & ER and OSR Incident Command Group during emergencies
  • Maintains records and prepares reports as needed
  • Represent Associate Dean for Basic Science Research Operations in lab construction, renovation, and infrastructure enhancement projects related projects.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required
  • Report to Associate Dean, Basic Science Research Operations

Is able to recognize problems as they occur, and through the application of appropriate policy/procedure, determines and/or recommends the appropriate solution. 2. Must be able to troubleshoot. 3. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties; asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to ensure accuracy. 4. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • To qualify you must have a Bachelor of Science in Biology, chemistry or relevant science or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 5 to 7 years of laboratory and/or laboratory operations experience.
  • Individual should have a familiarity with the capabilities, requirements, uses and physical conditions for active research laboratories.
  • Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact productively with leadership, faculty and staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Prior experience in building/facility support and management preferred. Excellent project management skills and extensive knowledge of facilities management, complex operating systems and equipment maintenance and techniques and processes.
  • Strong communication skills and relationship/team building skills. Excellent judgement and reasoning ability enabling problem-solving and issue resolution, with a variety of options in varying situations.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and make decisions with in-depth understanding. Responsible for setting and meeting department deadlines in alignment with research operations strategic and operational plans.
