Just is seeking a motivated and creative Scientist, who desires a significant opportunity to improve worldwide access to biotherapeutics. We are looking for a driven scientific leader to join a fast-paced, collaborative, and multidisciplinary team to build and lead a group that will employ mass spectrometry to characterize biotherapeutics and support process development. As the leader of the Mass Spectrometry group in Redmond, WA, you will possess strong skills in large molecule characterization and detailed knowledge of assessing common post-translational modifications in protein biotherapeutics combined with strong leadership and management skills. A familiarity with scientific software such as Xcalibur, BioPharma Finder, Protein Metrics, Unifi, and Genedata Expressionist is highly desirable for this position. Experience with biosimilar development, leading CMC teams, and authoring regulatory authority correspondence and interaction is a plus. The ideal candidate also has strong written and verbal communications skills, works well both independently and in teams, and has excellent organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Build and lead a team that will employ mass spectrometry
  • Characterization of biotherapeutics using mass spectrometry (intact mass and peptide mapping workflows)
  • Method development for mass spectrometry-based experiments
  • Manage staff, capital resources and planning
  • Serve as a mass spectrometry technical resource on cross functional teams
  • Work with team members on technology development to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency, speed, and capacity of mass spectrometery-based testing
  • Lead CMC process teams
  • Supervise and mentor Scientists

Requirements:
  • BS/MS in Biochemistry, Biology, Bioengineering or related field with 15+ years of experience or Ph.D. with 7+ years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience with TOF and Orbitrap technology
  • Strong mentoring, managerial, and leadership skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Protein characterization experience, including complex glycoproteins
  • Expertise with mass spectrometry method development
  • Desire to work in a fast, collaborative, and team-oriented environment

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with Biosimilar characterization and comparability
  • Experience with troubleshooting complex instrumentation
  • Direct interactions with FDA and other regulatory agencies
  • Experience with CMC team leadership
  • Hands on experience with Genedata Expressionist, BioPharma Finder, Xcalibur, or other mass spectrometry analysis platforms.
