The primary function of the Marketing Compliance Manager is to provide strategy, direction, and oversight across all marketing compliance areas within US Commercial, including Non-Personal Promotion (NPP), Privacy (Consumer & HCP), Market Research, KANA reporting, etc.  Partner with other AbbVie organizations including, Marketing, Office of Ethics & Compliance (OEC), Medical, Regulatory, Legal, and outside vendors to ensure effective training and implementation of compliance requirements, monitor enforcement across all external vendors and internal stakeholders, and reporting of KPIs.  Also partners with all various levels of business functions to provide moderate to complex policy interpretation and provide guidance on the requirements.

This position is also responsible for developing, championing, and implementing processes, policies and tools to support compliance while ensuring the organizations ability to effectively deliver against plans. This role must lead the cross-functional matrix teams across Commercial, Legal, and OEC in the effort to deliver on compliance expectations and innovate through the matrix team to build simple, effective compliance strategies that are customized to needs of internal stakeholders.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Directs the development and implementation of processes, tools, metrics, initiatives, infrastructure and technology that will ensure compliant marketing activities.
  • Continually assesses existing processes and procedures to identify risk areas and risk scenarios: develops solutions, proactively where possible, to mitigate, reduce or cancel risk; promotes continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and manage day-to-day compliance related interactions with US Commercial teams, SME who provides input into applicable marketing policies, and assists with implementing any audit finding corrective actions to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. 
  • Acts as liaison with OEC and Legal stakeholders to provide regular reports and updates on operational procedures, success metrics and incidents, as well as strategic improvements
  • Collaboratively consults with other marketing stakeholders to support strategic business needs while improving the effectiveness and efficiency of processes, programs, and infrastructure.  Provides guidance on proposed business strategies, tactics and programs, and if any issues are identified work with key stakeholders to propose alternative solutions to the business.   
  • Reviews vendor performance dashboards and compliance monitoring results for purposes of performance against defined KPIs and provides AbbVie Senior Leadership consistent and accurate updates on compliance performance and any preventative strategies that boost compliance and mitigate business performance risks

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS required. 
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting Pharmaceutical Products, specifically:
    • 7+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical / healthcare experience with demonstrated success required
    • Strategic thinking & business planning skills, ability to diagnose needs, develop, direct, and influence commercial compliance strategies
    • Managing cross functional teams and/or external partners
    • Knowledge of compliance requirements in the pharmaceutical/medical device industry
