ROLE SUMMARY

This Director of Architecture role supports the Core and Enabling Functions Solutions team and manages technology strategy and technical architecture for Pfizer’s Worldwide Safety, Regulatory and Medical (WSRM) solutions and applications.

This role is responsible for supporting Worldwide Safety solutions by working collaboratively with Client Partners, Creation Center personal and business leader on systems that detect, assess, understand, prevent and report on adverse effects or any other drug-related issues as a result of investigational products administered during clinical studies and post-marketed product activities.

This role is responsible for supporting Regulatory by working collaboratively with Client Partners, Creation Center personal and business leader on systems that plan, strategize, develop and deliver regulatory submissions to Health Authorities with the objective to achieve marketing approval for investigational and/or post-marketed products; interact with Health Authorities to progress review activities and/or provide supporting materials and data to drive regulatory approvals.

This role is responsible for supporting Worldwide Safety solutions by working collaboratively with Client Partners, Creation Center personal and business leader on systems that manage the creation of medical response documents, manage medical grants, ensure accountability for HCP payments, provide clinical trial disclosure, track medical quality assurance and provide compassionate access to Pfizer drug products.

The architecture team leads the efforts to architect scalable, modern experiences, platforms and solutions, using next generation enterprise architecture practices and emerging technology.

Key accountabilities:

  • Develops a method to understand current and future business requirements and works with application owners, data domain owners and business leaders to ensure strategic business goals are met within the required timeframes.
  • Owns design and architecture of Safety, Regulatory and Medical solutions and platforms that are integrated with the Pfizer business ecosystem working in partnership with Pfizer Digital teams. Acts a subject matter expert of the principles, concepts and theories and has advanced knowledge of this business domain.
  • Plays a critical role in external collaborations with Solution providers, thought leaders and vendors across the domain .
  • Works with Client Partners, business stakeholders and Digital leadership to craft strategies for value-adding capabilities content, services or applications that support Safety and Regulatory business processes in a safe and secure manner
  • Works with Digital and business leads across multiple work streams to define, create, and maintain end-to-end operational efficiencies and controls for both Digital and business processes in supported systems.
  • Consistently demonstrates excellent communication skills and can work effectively in a cross-functional matrixed organization. Ensures accurate and timely communication of the project milestones to the Digital Leadership team and creates a high-functioning team environment.
  • Works with business leads and Digital colleagues across domains to prioritize initiatives to ensure investments are focused on areas with the highest business value.  Ensures that ROI on investments are achieved and that teams hit their financial targets.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Delivery:

  • Facilitate exploration of new technologies, and new systems/configurations through proof of concept (POC) and pilot solutioning. though reference implementation support & renewal for application in scope of this position.
  • Accountable for the formulation of solution implementation approach, building consensus on approach, and providing technical execution oversight of such solutions.
  • Accountable for designing and documenting complex systems at the component level, makes strategic technology choices, provides oversight or directly supervises the work of those who are doing so.
  • Accountable for Digital Architecture deliverables including capability maps, blueprints, roadmaps and solution sketches across the domain
  • Has Digital Leadership team relationship management responsibilities and expected to Influence management/senior staff decisions and serves as a company expert in solving highly complex problems across Digital platforms and solutions ensuring security best practices are implemented.

  • Knowledgeable about the regulatory constraints of leveraging Safety, Regulatory and Medical solutions in the healthcare industry (GxP, HIPAA, Sunshine, security audits & certifications, business associates agreements, etc.).
  • Provides leadership in the definition of APIs and connectivity that enables Pfizer to integrate into the broader global healthcare ecosystem, enabling greater value exchange with partners & customers and the digitization/automation of end to end value streams & processes.
  • Develops and sustains constructive partnerships between business and Digital stakeholders to ensure the success of projects
  • Is able to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles, at all levels of the organization; can get messages across that have the desired effect.
  • Ensures effective, accurate and timely communication across the portfolio; prepares and delivers regular updates on project status, both in written and presentation format, to sponsors, business leaders and stakeholder groups.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited institution
  • 10+ years of experience managing digital implementations of large R&D, Global Product Development and Safety related projects/programs
  • 3+ years of experience in designing and deploying secure platforms and solutions
  • Enterprise Architecture framework definitions and solution modeling experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and evidence of enabling teamwork in a matrix environment
  • Proven ability to build coalitions and develop strong partnerships across functions
  • Strong diplomacy skills; able to navigate a difficult political environment
  • Executive presence and ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization 
  • Experienced with indirectly managing staff and large numbers of geographically diverse onshore and offshore consultants
  • An “execution mindset” focused on getting things done quickly and simply
  • Leads and directs one or more project teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems or equivalent proven industrial experience
  • Masters degree in a computer or information science or engineering preferred
