Position Overview:

Molecular Templates is seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Senior Research Associate to join the research and development (R&D) team. The Sr. RA is an integral member of the R&D team and will be responsible for supporting the evaluation and characterization of immune properties of ETBs in immune associated indications. This is a laboratory-based position and will be focused on the independent design, execution, analysis, and documentation of standard immunoassays as well as initiation and development of new protocols and innovations, as needed to support R&D projects.

The Sr. Research Associate may be assigned to work with less experienced team members to train and mentor them. The Sr. Research Associate may be asked to work on projects with less direct supervision and/or that are more critical to overall research goals and will be expected to apply good judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions. Responsibilities may change in line with prioritization at the discretion of the management team.

Job Responsibilities will include:
  • Performs research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects.
  • Analyze data, evaluate results, form conclusions, and provide input to support next steps.
  • Under the supervision and direction of management, assists in investigating, creating, and developing new methods and technologies for project advancement.
  • Maintains a high level of professional expertise through familiarity with internal training and scientific literature, as appropriate for the level of work assigned.
  • Presents data and methods in R&D meetings as needed and assigned.
  • Accurately documents all tasks in a timely manner.
  • Actively engages in the design and execution of new experiments, test protocols and improvement of current work processes, as needed under the direction of management.
  • Supports management with the onboarding, training, and mentoring of more junior lab personnel.
  • Expected to work with minimal supervision, receiving little instruction on routine work and general instruction on new assignments.
  • Has a working knowledge of assay requirements and can accurately resource plan to meet team expectations.
  • Performs non-routine work while applying scientific principles with attention to detail.
  • Maintains primary immune cell cultures and manages resources and reagents to support project needs in a timely fashion.
  • Independently executes functional immune-assays, including cytotoxicity, proliferation, and surface marker phenotyping to proficiency and with ability to train more junior team members.
  • Independently designs, executes, and analyzes flow cytometry-based assays.
  • Will contribute to daily lab maintenance tasks including equipment maintenance, cleaning, stocking the lab, maintaining inventories, and other general laboratory tasks, as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor, as needed.

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree is required, a master's degree in a life science, chemistry, pharmaceutical science, or related field preferred.
  • 2 - 6 years of lab-based experience (academic or industry) is required.
  • Relevant experience in a laboratory setting involving primary immune cells, T cell culture and characterization is preferred.
  • Experience in design and execution of flow cytometry assays desirable.
  • Ability to work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely follow detailed directions and protocols in a laboratory environment and to use experience and expertise to suggest improvements to management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Ability to build stable working relationships with team members.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports to Immunology R&D management. This can vary in level depending on the specific assignments.
