Associate Director, Data Strategy & Governance

We are seeking a highly data driven, passionate and self-motivated individual to join our Data and Digital team. This position is responsible for defining the data strategy, data acquisition roadmap and governance to support the North America Oncology, Neuroscience and Rare Disease therapeutic areas and business needs. He/she will serve as the internal expert on healthcare care data sources and coordinates alignment across multiple functions to foster value creation by means of the organization's data assets and external ecosystem.

This individual will partner with business units and supporting functions, advocate for appropriate use of data according to industry best practices, and align data strategy & purchases clearly to business priorities and compliance across all areas.

Main responsibilities and Job expectations
  • Develop and manage the overall strategic direction, vision and roadmap for North America (NA) data strategy, governance and operating model based on priorities and needs of business units
  • Champion and maintain commercial data strategy and governance principles (goals, objectives, priorities, scope) for all business areas in the North America
  • Partner with stakeholders across the franchises to identify opportunities for leveraging central data to drive business decisions and business process optimization
  • Advise and advocate for, appropriate use of data across NA Oncology, Neuroscience and Rare disease therapeutic areas, according to industry best practices
  • Lead teams to deliver accurate, reliable, and timely data and operational support across key stakeholders in Commercial and Medical Affairs business functions
  • Own the relationship and process for acquiring data from third party providers (IQVIA, Symphony, Komodo, Prognos, MMIT, etc.)
  • Keep up-to-date on emerging data and and integration for pharmaceuticals; anticipates future business needs
  • Define and track KPIs and ensure consistent usage to support business stakeholders
  • Manage external data operations including sourcing, provisioning, access controls, use-case evaluations
  • Develop training materials and supporting documentation to enhance data literacy across the organization
  • Continually evaluate the needs of the business and make budgetary recommendations on spend changes with regard to data, vendors or planned analysis
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to coordinate cross-functional analysis and data acquisition


Knowledge, abilities & experience

Education / Certifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree Required


Experience:
  • At least 10 years of experience in commercial analytics related fields (data management/governance, commercial analytics, etc.)
  • 5+ years pharmaceutical experience with direct experience managing data strategy and governance


Key Technical Competencies Required
  • Deep understanding of the commercial data sources primarily used in pharmaceutical industry (i.e. script level, patient longitudinal, specialty pharmacy / distributor, lab, real-world, etc.) in generating business insights
  • Experience in pharmaceutical healthcare and/or pharma healthcare consulting industry with focus on data strategy, management and governance
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry with expert knowledge of secondary data sources and suppliers in the US market, such as IQVIA, Symphony, Komodo, Prognos, MMIT, etc.
  • Deep expertise in external data assets (including medical claims and specialty pharmacy) to enable brand strategy and insights
  • Excellent influencing skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with key business partners, IT leadership teams, and external service providers
  • Strong data strategy and governance experience with pharmaceutical business knowledge in defining and advancing the Data Management and Analytics capabilities
  • Solid business acumen, understanding of what are the key business drivers that will generate desired results
  • Familiarity with business intelligence and data warehousing principles and techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as excellent verbal, written communication & presentation skills
  • Ability to manage vendors, contracts and budget activities required
