Amgen is searching for a Patent Agent Biotechnology & Process Developmentin our Intellectual Property and Litigation group. This role can be based at either Amgens research site in South San Francisco, California, or at our corporate headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California.

The Patent Agent will work under the direction and supervision of a patent attorney to support and manage a portfolio of patent families relating to Amgens therapeutic products and product candidates, including, e.g., antibodies, siRNAs,dual targeting molecules, immune other apeutics, and cell-based therapies.

Responsibilities will include: supervising and managing outside patent counsel; reviewing invention disclosure records to identify patentable subject matter; drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications worldwide; conducting prior art searches; assisting patent attorneys in the preparation of freedom-to-operate opinions; assisting patent attorneys in conducting due diligence in support of licensing activities; assisting patent litigators and paralegals with litigation-related matters andother adversarial proceedings such as challenges to/defenses ofpatents in PTAB, opposition, and other forums in the United States and abroad.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of patent agent experience

OR

Masters degree and 4 years of patent agent experience

OR

Bachelors degree and 6 years of patent agent experience

Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

Preferred Qualifications:

Ten or more years of biotech patent preparation and prosecution experience

An advanced degree such as a Masters or Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, or structural biology

Excellent analytic, legal drafting and oral and written communication skills

Strong client service focus; ability to work efficiently, to prioritize workflow, to meet demanding deadlines, and to manage multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment.
